Vermicompost is richer in many nutrients than compost produced by other composting methods. It is also rich in microbial life which helps break down nutrients already present in the soil into plant-available forms. The dark brown waste liquid that drains into the bottom of the unit, as water-rich foods break down, is also excellent as fertilizer. Worms used in your worm farm need to be special composting red worms (worms are sold separately). They are fast breeders and can consume their own weight in food in twenty-four hours. One thousand worms are all that is required to start off the farm (two thousand if
