My 2-year daughter loved the first Tumford book, so I recently bought this one, thinking she would love it, as well. In typical Tumford style, he's in his rare funny form making mischief and creating havoc, which my daughter loved....that is, until we got to the page where he is picked up by his nape and tossed out. That page so upset my young daughter that we can't read the book again. Who would have guessed? Maybe my girl is just extra sensitive, but the picture is a bit disturbing to see the cat being dangled in mid-air and tossed out. But the rest of the book is the usual Tumford being his giddily mischievous self and, now that you've been warned about the page, you can always just skip it!

This book is a fair lesson learner for how certain noises are not always appropriate. While I can see this as a tool to work with young children I also feel it could have been better.
The lessons seemed glossed over and the learning process way too exaggerated.
The pictures were cute, some funny even. Tumford's expressions give him a great personality. Overall, not a bad book. A child might have some fun with it, but it doesn't seem like it will make the favorite list of any child or parent I know of. However, a parent may embellish on the story some to make it more educationally successful. So, overall, an okay read.

We have another "Tumford" book, and bought this one based on our love for that one. Both have are written in rhyming verses, and are a pleasure to read out loud. The books have a moral and try to teach kids to behave. In this book, Tumford ruins a party with his attention-craving behavior and is punished (with a time out).

I gave the book 4 instead of 5 stars because it is not quite as wonderful as the first one.

My daughter and I have been a fan of Nancy Tillman since my daughter was 2 months old. Her style of writing is always fun and gentle, and we especially love Tumford. He is the perfect character for a toddler to identify with, and the message in this book is conveyed with perfect humor. Most of all, as a parent, my favorite message is that children should be loved...no matter what "noises" they make.

A nice book with beautiful illustrations, as expected... But Tumford the Terrible was a much better story, and with a much better message. The message of this story is basically, not to make noise. Tummy is cute as always, but if you're trying to decide between Tumford the Terrible and Rude Noises... Go with the Terrible :)

Attention is desired by all, but as this delightful book demonstrates there is positive and negative attention. An excellent way to explain this to young children and old children(like me--gee it's fun being a kid!). I truly appreciate and enjoy this author and it's nice to be reminded, as she does, that you are loved.

My first book by Nancy Tillman was Tumford the Terrible. My youngest grandson, age 2, loved it so much that I immediately started looking for others like it. Fortunately this came out just a short time later and is an even bigger hit than the first. I would highly recommend it.

I read this book to my two toddlers every night. They love this book! Tumford helps to give a bit of a lesson in manners and Nancy Tillman, the author actually lets the children help Tumford learn a lesson. Video attached!

I love Nancy Tillman. This book is a bit different than the others I have purchased by her because the kitty is so... well... so rude...but the child I bought it for thought it was hilarious. (and I was pretty amused as well)
