I owned a Saddleback briefcase for about a year, but finally the weight and stiffness brought me back to fabric.
I looked at a lot of Filson briefcases. I ordered the Filson Computer briefcase, their Original briefcase, and their Tin Cloth Original briefcase (thanks Amazon free returns). I liked the tan tin cloth briefcase the most, but wasn't crazy about the lack of compartments and to be honest, wasn't totally sold on the style. For $300+, I was not going to settle for something I wasn't totally happy with. If you do buy a Filson briefcase, be sure to buy it from the company. They have a lifetime warranty, but only for items you buy from them directly.
I had seen old Tumi ballistic bags and was never impressed with the style, but then I ran across the Alpha Bravo collection at Nordstrom. The leather accents, for me, give the collection a much more refined image. I found the Brooks and McNair briefcases to be too small. I liked the Pinckney model a lot, but it was a little larger than I wanted and I also wanted to get away from the flap with buckle design, which is what my Eddie Bauer bag had.
The Tumi Yuma is a nice looking bag. A lot nicer than the pictures on-line. I went with the Hickory color. It's basically black with dark brown leather accents. If it matters to anyone, the black is not a pure jet black, but has a very slight brown hint to it (I have a black LL Bean Carryall that I compared it to). It looks great with the brown leather, which is very dark, I would call it mahogany. It does not stand out as prominently as it appears in pictures on-line.Read more ›
The handles on this brief are more comfortable than on earlier alpha bravo briefs. The shoulder strap also has a much more comfortable shoulder pad than previous briefs. It took a minute to figure out how to unhook the strap but I suppose this change was to add a little security to the bag (so it isn't so easy to unhook the strap intentionally or unintentionally).
The ID tag is kind of in an inconvenient place. I like the metal hook you can use for the tag, but the tag itself gets in the way of opening/closing the front pockets. Even so I really like this brief!

Great bag! That's expected of a Tumi. The one I had before was 2-3 years old and barely looked used after many business trips. Read morePublished 7 months ago by Bob Clark
