This is an extremely well-designed and well-constructed bag.

Put your laptop in the padded laptop pocket when you pack, when you head through security simply unzip one zipper and put your bag through the x-ray machine.

Anyway, if you are doing a lot of domestic USA travel, the T-Pass is a great feature.

I have had this bag for about a year and it is the best laptop bag I ever had, including a couple of older Tumi's. I decided to go for a T-Pass bag after witnessing a colleague accidentally drop his laptop, while taking it out of his bag at the airport security. Now I just unzip one zipper and just place it through the TSA scanners.

Aside from T-Pass, I also like the narrow front pocket, which I think was originally designed to hold a folding umbrella. I use it to hold a small bottle of water (which the airport concessionaires sell for a ridiculous $3).

My last Tumi laptop bag was the wheeled medium-size 26102. So the only thing I miss from the older Tumi bag was the convenience of the wheels. If Tumi could somehow create a T-Pass laptop case with wheels, that would be the ultimate computer bag for me.

Update November 2012: I have been travelling weekly to a client in Canada for the past 4 months and was quite disappointed that the Canadian equivalent of the TSA do not recognize the T-Pass feature. I have to remove my laptop out of the Tumi bag everytime I pass through Canadian airport security. One would have thought that North American airport security protocols should be consistent. Anyway, if you are doing a lot of domestic USA travel, the T-Pass is a great feature. If you do a lot of international travel, there is no advantage in owning a T-Pass bag; better to get the wheeled non-T-Pass Tumi bag.

Update October 2013: With the advent the TSA pre-check program ([...] I now find T-pass feature almost obsolete. If you qualify for the TSA pre-check, there is no need to take out the laptop out of the bag. If you travel frequently enough that you think you need a T-Pass bag, you probably will qualify for the TSA pre-check anyway. And since T-Pass is not honored in airports outside the US, then the usefulness of T-Pass is greatly reduced. The 26145 is still a great-looking and versatile bag, though.

The Tumi Alpha T-Pass Medium Laptop Brief met or exceeded all of my admittedly high standards.

In looking at the bag, I am shocked how much I am able to fit comfortably within the bag. My daily contents are: 15" MacBook Pro, Kindle, iPad/iPhone, external hard drive, Bose QC15's with carrying case, newspaper, magazine, Netflix DVDs, pack of gum, passport, and all applicable chargers.

I travel between 20-30 round trip flights per year. This bag is specifically engineered for a business commuter. In addition to holding up to every stress test imaginable, this Tumi is comfortable to carry, easy to mount to your suitcase, fits underneath an economy class seat and it's very classy looking.

Perhaps the best feature is the T-Pass. Put your laptop in the padded laptop pocket when you pack, when you head through security simply unzip one zipper and put your bag through the x-ray machine. No hassle when flying domestically. On international legs, I've been asked to remove my laptop about 75% of the time.

A perfect 5 out of 5 stars: I'm not sure if Tumi is even able to improve this incredible product. Have recommended it to many of my colleagues, several of whom have said when their existing bags run their course they will upgrade to Tumi.

I have had a number of Tumi bags, and don't like this one at all.

The T-pass 'feature' consumes/wastes a ridiculous amount of storage spage, and this medium-sized bag needs that space.

The little pockets in the front take away a lot of storage space by being little and chopping up the area in the front of the bag. That wouldn't be so bad if the only other larger space could be closed. Alas, the space that they describe as great for newspapers is actually a larger, deeper space that could be used for other items - if it weren't a gaping, open space.

Also, the shoulder strap is narrow and uncomfortable. I replaced mine with one off one of my old Tumi bags. Also, the clips where the shoulder strap attached is now plastic, which I guess they get away with now that no longer offer lifetime warranties. With the heavy use my bags see, I'm not expecting the clips to hold up.

All in all, disappointing for a Tumi product.

August 2012 update: it's interesting to watch the ''not helpful' scores accumulate at a far higher rate than any of my other reviews. My guess is that Tumi has people working to negate less than favorable reviews.

I've had it for a month and a few flights and so far it's a great bag. I'm switching from a backpack for 7 years, which made me feel like a school kid when walking into meetings, to this bag which I find to be much more appropriate for business. The sleeve on the back easily slides over a rolling suitcase handle so you don't have to carry this through the airport unless you want to. An assortment of front pockets add structure to the bag and the shape make it sit upright on its own which is great for finding things in the pockets or just sitting it in a conference room without having to prop it against a wall. The fit and finish is great and the T-Pass feature worked like a charm at the airports I flew through - no more taking the laptop out!

The criticisms I have are small: the front 'water bottle pocket' is pretty deep and I find it hard to get things out of it once they slide to the bottom - my hands are a little too big to fit comfortably into the opening, but this isn't a deal breaker. I do wish that pocket zipped open a little more and had just a little more structure: a pen holder, keychain holder, something so that if you don't carry a water bottle it's not just a big void of a pocket. Also it would be nice if the inner file/paper holder area had some storage. Maybe a mesh zipper pouch sewn in or an organizer pocket. My old backpack had a few more built-in storage areas and I think this Tumi could benefit from the same. I solved this by adding a mesh zipper pouch (technically a slim packing cube) from another Amazon seller (ebags) and this is working nicely so far. I can remove the pouch from the bag and sort through it easily and it fits well into the file area with my umbrella and the included Tumi pouch. Overall I highly recommend the Tumi for those who fly or for anyone wanting a sharp looking and well made laptop bag.
