Great CD. Goes with the book of the same name. Interesting theories about the effects of music on the brain. Well worth the read (and listen).

1.0 out of 5 stars Caution: Issues with Putting this CD on iPod, June 10, 2009
This review is from: Tune Your Brain: Music to Manage Your Mind, Body and Mood (An Audio Companion to the Book by Elizabeth Miles) (Audio CD)
I've owned this CD for some years now. I recently bought an iPhone, and wanted to rip this Cd to use for meditation, with my earplugs in. I encountered two problems:

1) The mastering is uneven, causing me to have to adjust the volume between tracks...some of the classical pieces come in loud enough to hurt the ears...distracting when one is trying to relax. Also, the Gregorian Chant recording is quite "noisy" with a loud shhhhh in the background.

2) This issue is more serious: I've been working through the various stages on the CD, trying to use them as intended for Relaxation or Focus, but I've encountered a problem. When one "rips" the music from the CD to put on an iPod, it does not separate the tracks properly. So if you look at the cd package to find the music to play for focus (track 3), and then go to the download to choose track 3, you will actually be hearing Gregorian Chant music to Relax, not Focus. Could be very frustrating, and even detrimental when you get into the Heal vs Energize section, which follow one another...imagine the frustration of a person in pain! So, for what it's worth, I'm trying to let people know about the problem.

I feel that Deutsch Grammophone should really recall or at least remaster the CD so that it rips properly to iPods, etc... Or, perhaps they could offer free downloads of the corrected version to those of us who already own the CD.

I don't think this is anything Elizabeth Miles could have known about, but I hope that once she learns of it, she will make sure that it is corrected; she could refuse to renew her book's license to DG until it is handled, for instance.

I've not bought any of the subsequent CDs, so I cannot speak to those.
