5.0 out of 5 stars A DUB LANDMARK, March 3, 2002

This review is from: Tunes From the Missing Channel (Audio CD)
An influential mid-80's dub set from Adrian Sherwood's On-U-Sound label. Dub Syndicate is primarily Roots Radics drummer Style Scott, producer Sherwood and a fluid list of collaborators from inside and outside the fraternity of other On-U-Sound collectives (African Head Charge, Creation Rebel etc).

Apart from the usual suspects this album is notable for the contributions of ex-PIL members Jah Wobble and Keith Levine and took dub into some previously unchartered waters, using innovative production techniques and incorporating an eclectic mix of musical elements.

It features sometimes disorientating but always meticulously assembled layers of sound built around On-U-Sound's trademark heavy bass and drums, punctuated with liberal doses of fx and vocal samples, and was ahead of most people's tastes at the time. Artists like Ryan Moore (Twilight Circus) and Sub Dub are still catching up.

I'm not sure if this or "Stoned immaculate" is my favourite Dub Syndicate album, but as I'm from Yorkshire, the fact that it contains a track called "Geoffrey Boycott" probably swings it for "Tunes from the missing channel". Go forth and purchase!
