5.0 out of 5 stars awesome metal!, June 21, 2010

This review is from: Tunes of War (Audio CD)
Check it out-this is serious metal. and the vocals are awesome-none of that fake growling that you hear so many of these cheesy wannabe metal bands engaging in...this is the real deal! lots of heavy guitars/solos. plenty of good, heavy double-bass drumming...Grave Digger has always been good for this! No, this is really something special as far as metal albums are concerned. in fact, if you are a true metal fan, it would be very difficult to not love this. the song "the truth" is just a rocker! kick ass!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT!, November 18, 2002

Melodical...Epic...Feeling...Excelence! These words describes perfectly this album. This is the first album of the temathic trilogy, that include "Knights of the Cross"(Inquisition, crusades, and the search for the Holy Grail) and finishes with "Excalibur" (The sword Excalibur, and the knights of the Round Table). This cd relates the story of William Wallace and Scotland fighting for its independence. Basically, many of the facts appeared in the movie "BraveHeart", that's why songs like "William Wallace(Barveheart)" or "The Bruce(The Lion King)" might sound familiar.

I love this album. It's perfect! There are no fillers. 13 songs of epic power metal, starting with a cool intro with "gaitas" that set the Scottish climate for the rest of the album. It has different tempos: fast songs, mid tempo, and a ballad. Of course, there are many great choruses and very good solos...
You will notice that the members of the band gave everything they could to make this album, with a lot of feelings. There are different rhythms and each song is a piece of art. "Tunes of War" is heavier than both follow ups, 'cause it has more fast songs, and you will hear some Accept influences, not only in the sound...I bet the story will get into you quickly..."The Battle of Flodden" is one of my favorite songs, but it changes from time to time.

This album is a must have for any metal fan. And remember, is not only a music cd, it's also a lesson of history!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well crafted, and produced high energy metal., November 20, 1999

This review is from: Tunes of War (Audio CD)
This is the third (their seventh) album I have heard from Grave Digger. The other two were their first "Heavy Metal Breakdown" and third "War Games". To me, Grave Digger concentrate on getting great riffs similar in vein to Accept (Restless and Wild era) and combining them with big choruses and will crafted solos. The result is great music which is generally fast in pace but not thrash. From these albums I have heard the progression is definitely going in the right direction with the music getting more mature and slightly more intricate and the production getting better with the music alwways being kept well heavy and fast. The only criticism would be the vocals which are very German and hard to make out, but can be forgiven as the singer is the reason the band exist and without him this great music would not exist. Like fast riffy metal? BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars what a great metal album about Scotland's war history, May 12, 1999

What a great album in general. Brilliant! Great writing playing, history, and emotion on this album that deals with the heroic and tragic war history of Scotland. Includes such historical figures as Braveheart, Mary Queen of Scots, etc. Definately one of my best buys in the past few years.
