Informative and well written. I like that even with all of the scientific evidence Mr Engledew has offered, you still get to make up your own mind. Comet, meteor, or perhaps, something else? ... You decide.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and readable, September 13, 2010

I have had a passing interest in this topic for a long time and to discover Mr. Engledew's book was a most welcome event. I found it to be very informative with an exploration of the several possibilities of what might have happened and the plausibility of each. He does this in a straightforward manner explaning the science behind each of the possible cuases and brings forth the 'evidence' that exists. He presents the information in a manner which allows the reader to make up her or his own mind regarding each possibility only offering near the end what he feels may be the most likely cause. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in one of the great scientific puzzles that still exists in today's world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wealth of accessibly presented scientific data, May 20, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Although I had some prior knowledge of the Tunguska phenomenon from a TV documentary, this book provided a completely different perspective. Clearly based on extensive and comprehensive research, it contains detailed information drawn from contemporary reports, a wealth of accessibly presented scientific data, and the author's own perspective on the nature of the event. A thoroughly worthwhile read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read!, May 15, 2010
This review is from: The Tungus Event or The Great Siberian Meteorite (Perfect Paperback)
This book is a fascinating examination of a little known historical event. This book does a great job of integrating scientific, astronomical and geological clues with the latest research on the event in order to debunk a variety of hypothesis and suggest its own explanation for exactly what happened in 1908. I would not consider myself into heavy scientific reading at all and I really enjoyed this book. You will too! Can you imagine the devastation that this event might have caused had it not happened to impact the earth in such a remote and obscure location?

5.0 out of 5 stars Turns my gaze from the sea to the sky!, March 11, 2011
This review is from: The Tungus Event or The Great Siberian Meteorite (Perfect Paperback)
Having a background in marine biotechnology and aquaculture, my interests lie mainly in the waters below us. Mr. Engledew's work has given me a new-found interest in astronomical occurrences. "The Tungus Event" details all the known facts regarding the Tunguska meteorite and presents them in a clear and logical matter that captures and sustains attentions and imaginations (even those whose minds are in the abyss!). I truly hope to see more works from this wonderful author!
