Book Description

December 29, 1989
Do you want to fix that stuck key? Or tune that sour note (between regular tunings)? Would you like to understand and be able to "set" an equally tempered scale-as a curious musician? This book explains a simple straight forward method of setting the basic equal temperament in tuning a piano- without higher mathematics. This system was developed and tested by the author in a one-month interim course offered for several years at the Birmingham Southern College. Several students continued on their own after this basic course to become tuners. It explains carefully the equally important skilled technique of using the tuning hammer (wrench) to properly "set" the string and minimize string breakage. This is vital, even if a strobe is employed for pitch definition.

I would like to tell about my own reading experience. It is an excellent opportunity to learn, what anyone should do in order to become a professional tuner. Actually, a book by Mr. D.W.Stauffer helped me a lot to understand importance of being patient while doing any kind of work that requires professionalism. I would strongly recommend to get in touch with the book - it worth your attention!

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Piano Tuning for Musicians and Teachers (Paperback)
Generally speaking, the book gave sense of understanding the difficulty of a tuning process. Author of the book is generous with describing its specifics. Unfortunately, the book is adult oriented, which makes it a little difficult for unexperienced readers. Author widely uses professional terms, including some professional slang, which can be avoided if his auditorium includes children. The most valuable chapter of the book, however, was designed to give sense of specific correctness to everybody interested in subject, which makes the book inavoidable while learning about the piano tuning mastery.
