If you had to blindly pick the setting for a Springsteen song, smart money would be on an amusement park or boardwalk of some kind. When Bruce was dealing with a crumbling marriage, he headed back to the carnival world of his roots to sort it all out. It's a great mix, too. Springsteen here is able to take the trite metaphor of the tunnel of love ride and make it seem as if it's all brand new. The song is filled with great quotes. "Rooms in here get so dark brother, it's easy for two people to lose each other." Another one I think about often is, "you gotta learn to live with what you can't rise above."
