4.0 out of 5 stars Great for ages 8-9., December 1, 2006
A good mystery for the grades 3-4 audience. Four African-American middle school students investigate tunnels under their school for ghosts of the Underground Railroad. Slightly unbelievable that middle school kids had never heard of the Underground Railroad or that their dog digs them out of trouble. However, middle elementary should enjoy the suspense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good mix of fun but learning experience., February 28, 2011

I personally liked the Buried Bones Mystery more but my son loves this book as much as the first. It teaches the background of the underground railroad in a not so 'teachy' or 'preachy' way that is uninteresting to kids. Well written to put kids in the moment with the characters of the book.
