3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I had high hopes for this book, given its stellar reviews. It took me awhile to finish it, which is unusual for me. I tend to stay up late just to finish a good book. Definitely not the case here. Mostly I just skimmed the chapters. The plot was unoriginal and the characters poorly developed. I don't get all the 5 star reviews. I won't be reading the rest of the...

4.0 out of 5 stars Great race against the clock thriller, April 1, 2008
First in a planned series featuring FBI Special Agent Kelly Stone and her partner Roger Morrow. "Tunnels" finds Stone & Morrow investigating the serial killings of students at a prestigious New England college, their bodies found in the tunnels under the campus with strange symbols painted around them. The need to find the killer takes on a new urgency after another student is taken shortly after the agents' arrival.

Though not the most original or complicated plot, the characters are smart, the author avoids most of the cliches that can hamper female lead characters in this genre, and there's a nice mentor / father type relationship between Stone and Morrow. Fans of the show Criminal Minds will like this one as it has the same race-against-the-clock tension / feel to the investigation.

Sequel is "Boneyard" (ISBN 0778325393)

5.0 out of 5 stars You must read this!!, May 23, 2007

I just finished this book and I must say I'm very impressed. I couldn't put it down. I'm usually very skeptical about reading an author's first book, but Michelle Gagnon has a talent for storytelling. The characters are very likeable and believable, and the storyline is enthralling. I've never written a review before, but I felt I needed to for this one. If you like suspense, you have to read this book. It's on my list of favorites and I can't wait to see what Gagnon comes up with next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!!, September 29, 2009
I picked this book up on a whim, and I'm so glad I did. This is a great read. I highly suggest this.

Under a prestigious college in New England, there are some tunnels. I'm sure lot of schools have them. The problem is that in these tunnels a serial killer lurks. He just wants special people to be his victims. After all, not just anyone can be a victim of his, only the elete. When bodies are found (carved up in a graphic way) Special Agent Kelly Jones is called in. She has a knack for catching serial killers, and this one is so clever, he's off the charts. He's killing for a reason, and it's up to Kelly and her partner to find the reason, and find the killer. There's more to the plot, but if I say to much more it will ruin it. Let's just say that Kelly Jones has some demons in her closet that start to come out.

This is such a great read. The characters are true to life and seem to jump right off the page. There are some fantastic plot twists and great cliffhanger at the end of each chapter. If you start this, I can promise you won't be sorry.

There is just one drawback from the book, you'll lose a lot of sleep because you'll be hooked to see what happnens next. I know I was. I can't wait to start the second book in the series.

Great book, great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Tunnels, April 22, 2009
I couldn't put this book down-read it in two days. Very descriptive and you really felt you were actually where they were watching. You know when you have read a great book is when you think you know who did it and you end up wrong close to the end of the book. Great characters great story. Some of it has true parts to it. The Tunnels do exist.

2.0 out of 5 stars Eh...didn't quite regret spending the time, November 28, 2010

I purchased this ebook based on a review by an author I like. It had potential, I'm still debating whether to pursue reading the next book in the series. Although making that statement in print probably leads me to my own answer, no, I won't buy the next one. Guess I didn't care about the characters enough. When I'm puzzling through a major plot clue, and realizing it was flawed and shouldn't have happened, guess I have my answer. Can't talk about that one without giving too much away.

I was also bothered by the emphasis placed on a character's hallucinations when they turned out to have zero bearing on the plot. Especially for a character that should be very much in control and not prone to midnight fancies/dreams.

I couldn't appreciate the heroine, and believe me I wanted to love her and love this series. Just not enough depth, and too loosely plotted.

Was just a so-so plot. Moved slow. Could have been a much shorter book if had not been so repetitive in places. Hope her next one picks up speed.

3.0 out of 5 stars Boring, February 21, 2010
Wasn't any better than watching an episode of "Criminal Minds". Conversation between characters pretty simple and predictable. I am going to read "Boneyard". I hope it's better.
