This review is from: Turanga (Audio CD)
Back in the 70's there was some very good music that was influenced by jazz, rock, & classical with the primary ingredient being outstanding musicianship crafted into interesting improvisation. Back then, for lack of a better term, we called it fusion. After the fusion was no longer played on FM and some songs became too difficult to play well because of speed and time signatures and so forth, fusion sort of collapsed under its own weight. Improvisers went on to break new ground but few were listening. Fortunately, the jam band scene is reviving many type of improvisation from this more jazz focused recording to the rock of Phish, Moe, and Umphrey's McGee among others. Ray's Music Exchange plays creative improvised music but rarely tours so are relatively unknown. You may find a few of their concerts for free at etree.org to check them out. This is great music, well-written, and well-recorded. And tell your friends about them...
