4.0 out of 5 stars The Most Bang for your Buck, July 7, 2008
This review is from: Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560 (Misc.)
These are great, and the best price on the like to be found anywhere. They have a wider range of weight than most any for the price. They also come as a pair, with a stand (you can leave the smaller stands on the floor, unattached to the frame stand if you don't have room) all included, unlike most of this sort. I've been using them for a couple of weeks, and they're remaining quite sturdy.
The rubber covered grip with flat sides is actually innovative and underrated, keeping them aligned for replacement on the stand for readjustment, and it's quite comfortable.

The dumbell frames are solid, hard plasic held together by bolts, so it could be disassembled if replacement parts are ever needed (I don't know if they're available though) or tightening required. The adjustment switches (red) are a more flexible plastic, but thick and durable. The weights themselves are black painted iron. The stand is metal and solid, quick to assemble, with the actual weight rests, which could be used seperately if you don't have room for the stand, are a solid plastic. The dumbells have idiot proof diagrams on them by the switches for reference when adjusting to the desired weight.

The "2.5 lb. adjustment" isn't quite accurate. They are really adjustable in 5 lb. increments; 2.5 lbs. on each side of the dumbell. So, you could adjust them in 2.5 lb. increments, but they'd be 2.5 lbs. off-balance.

If you want the convenience of adjustable dumbells with a wide range of weight and you're on a budget, these are without a doubt the ones to get.

1.0 out of 5 stars Possibly worst purchse of my life, August 26, 2009
This review is from: Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560 (Misc.)
These dumb bells are possibly the worst thing I have ever purchased. After four uses, the rack that holds the weights cracked and about every three uses I have to use duct tape to fix the rack. The warranty is joke. I have had the weights fall from the dumbell during use because the toggle does not stay firmly secured--not very safe. The dumbells do not easily fit into the rack and it is often a hassle to get them to fit. Not exactly hat I want to deal with after doing a set to exhaustion. There is along screw that secures the weights in place and it has broken once. The markings on the weights designate how to set the amount of weight. On the one set of dumbells these markings are backwards. If someone tries to sell you these, run the other way. In my opinion they are poorly constructed and cheaply made.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560 (Misc.)
Works as expected. The included stand makes life a whole lot easier. Having this in my home allows me to work out much more often than when I was with a gym. It has already paid for itself.

Cons:

The dumbbells are made of metal and plastic. The plastic has cracked a few times. I've Crazy Glued it back into place. Not as big of a problem as it sounds.

The weights can rattle when you're using them. Not a problem unless it's late at night and you have a roommate.

The stand doesn't align the weights precisely. As a result, you can't just put them down. You have to use two hands or move the dumbbells around awkwardly until the weights align correctly. Not a big deal once you learn how to do it but it's a moderate annoyance.

Can't drop them! This is the only big drawback IMO. When I'm doing declined bench presses, I have to place pillows next to the bench for when I have to drop them and even then I'm weary.
