These are great, and the best price on the like to be found anywhere. They have a wider range of weight than most any for the price. These dumb bells are possibly the worst thing I have ever purchased. After four uses, the rack that holds the weights cracked and about every three uses I have to use duct tape to fix the rack. The warranty is joke. I have had the weights fall from the dumbell during use because the toggle does not stay firmly secured--not very safe. The dumbells do not easily fit...

These are great, and the best price on the like to be found anywhere. They have a wider range of weight than most any for the price. They also come as a pair, with a stand (you can leave the smaller stands on the floor, unattached to the frame stand if you don't have room) all included, unlike most of this sort. I've been using them for a couple of weeks, and they're remaining quite sturdy.
The rubber covered grip with flat sides is actually innovative and underrated, keeping them aligned for replacement on the stand for readjustment, and it's quite comfortable.

The dumbell frames are solid, hard plasic held together by bolts, so it could be disassembled if replacement parts are ever needed (I don't know if they're available though) or tightening required. The adjustment switches (red) are a more flexible plastic, but thick and durable. The weights themselves are black painted iron. The stand is metal and solid, quick to assemble, with the actual weight rests, which could be used seperately if you don't have room for the stand, are a solid plastic. The dumbells have idiot proof diagrams on them by the switches for reference when adjusting to the desired weight.

The "2.5 lb. adjustment" isn't quite accurate. They are really adjustable in 5 lb. increments; 2.5 lbs. on each side of the dumbell. So, you could adjust them in 2.5 lb. increments, but they'd be 2.5 lbs. off-balance.

If you want the convenience of adjustable dumbells with a wide range of weight and you're on a budget, these are without a doubt the ones to get.

The dumbells do not easily fit into the rack and it is often a hassle to get them to fit. Not exactly hat I want to deal with after doing a set to exhaustion. There is along screw that secures the weights in place and it has broken once. The markings on the weights designate how to set the amount of weight. On the one set of dumbells these markings are backwards. If someone tries to sell you these, run the other way. In my opinion they are poorly constructed and cheaply made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Would Recommend with a Few Reservations, September 10, 2008

Works as expected. The included stand makes life a whole lot easier. Having this in my home allows me to work out much more often than when I was with a gym. It has already paid for itself.

Cons:

The dumbbells are made of metal and plastic. The plastic has cracked a few times. I've Crazy Glued it back into place. Not as big of a problem as it sounds.

The weights can rattle when you're using them. Not a problem unless it's late at night and you have a roommate.

The stand doesn't align the weights precisely. As a result, you can't just put them down. You have to use two hands or move the dumbbells around awkwardly until the weights align correctly. Not a big deal once you learn how to do it but it's a moderate annoyance.

Can't drop them! This is the only big drawback IMO. When I'm doing declined bench presses, I have to place pillows next to the bench for when I have to drop them and even then I'm weary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set of Weights!, June 17, 2008
By
I've had these for about a week and already love them.

The weights themselves are very sturdy; there is very little motion in between the individual plates (so not much noise either). The fact that they go from 5 all the way to 60 is a big plus as most of the comparable sets only go up to 50. The 2.5 increments they advertise is actually an off balance weight (set one half of the dumbbell for 35 and the other half for 30, for example) but still seems to work out alright.

Their so called "Hammer Handle" actually makes a big difference as well (to my surprise). Coming from round, steel handles on your standard dumbells, they allow me more control. I was able to control the dumbbells more easily at a higher weight than I was before. All it really is a handle with flat edges on either side, coated in rubber, but it makes a noticable difference.

My only complaints are that the stand is ugly (not really a big deal) and that the instruction booklet comes with 8 steps to assemble it (the stand), none of which have pictures. It references parts, but no parts are labeled. The stand is pretty easy to put together, but you need to lay it out and figure it out on your own. The weights are kind of large but most adjustable dumbbells I've seen have been.

Overall a great product and I'm very staisfied. Would have given it 4.5 stars if I could have due to the small drawbacks. But the price and quality of these, especially when compared to the price and space a traditional set of dumbells would cost, more than makes up for it.

Switching between different weights is very easy, you just put the bell on the rack and move the corresponding levers according to the diagrams on the weights. The plastic levers and the discs they are attached to that hold the weights also appear to be very strong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed!, August 6, 2008
This review is from: Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560 (Misc.)
I am very happy with these dumbells.

I bought these instead of the Bowflex, because they come with a stand, are heavier, and seemed to be sturdier.

I can't be more pleased. They are easy to adjust, and the stand is suprisingly sturdy and high quality. I haven't had any issues with the weight not locking into place, or falling off - the mechanism seems very sturdy and I don't foresee any problems in the future with them under normal usage.

I'm glad I got these instead of the Bowflex - the stand is handy and the dumbells are very nice.

There are no good sites that review this item! You can't try them out in any stores either. I tried the Bowflex adjustables and the gold's gym adjustables and a few others...the Bowflex was all broken and wouldn't work for the store demo and the others were not sturdy and the plates seemed like they would fall on your head. The turbo bells are definitely the most sturdy and easy to use that i have tried. and they are the heaviest. The ironmasters seemed like they would be the best..but they are the most. Besides the two parts for the stand that I don't know what to do with it is a very sturdy stand and seems to be a good product. this replaces like 23 sets of dumbells..imagine paying for all that. If i grow out of these then I will just by dumbells by the set after 60lbs. That will be a while though....

I am very happy with these dumbbells. Just 2 of them take the place of 26 regular ones. They are plenty sturdy and very easy to adjust with a diagram for each weight configuration right on the dumbbells themselves.

They came already assembled and the weight stand took less than 10 minutes to put together. I highly recommend them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Turbo Bell Adjustable Weight Dumbbell with Stand, TB560, September 17, 2008
After your last repetition, don't drop these on the mat like you would with a regular solid dumbbell. It could cause the spacer inside the dumbbell to break which prevents the weights from being released from the unit, which happened to mine.
I called Performance Fitness Systems (1-888-999-9490) and talked to Rick. He was very helpful. I had to do some troubleshooting to the unit because Rick and I did not want to send the unit back as a whole, because it's heavy. So, after opening up the unit, I discovered that one of the larger spacers broke which causes one of the larger weights to not to be able to get released from the dumbbell. Rick had 3 new spacers sent to me. Since the incident, I am more careful to try not to drop it down hard after the last rep. and the they worked great since. I've been using it for about a month and a half now.

The 20lb weight on one of the dumbbells fell off 3 times in one set of 20 reps. The plastic locking mechanism is not very well thought out or perhaps this one is just defective. I will contact the manufacturer and update on their customer service.

4.0 out of 5 stars Happy with dumbbells but not with Amazon., July 8, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
My dumbbells arrived today. The dumbbells seem well built and solid and easy to adjust, but... They came in three boxes. One each for a dumbell and one for the stand. One of the dumbbell boxes had obviously come open and been re-taped. The base that holds the dumbbell was missing. Individual plates are held in the base when using a weight other than 60#. Without the base the dumbbell is not usable except as a 60 pounder.

The seller is listed as Performance Fitness Systems. I received an e-mail saying they shipped from Source-Plus.com. I attempted to call PFS and all phone numbers listed were disconnected. Their website no longer exists either. I contacted Amazon and got the, oh so common, Middle Eastern call center. I was informed that Amazon is not responsible for resellers and that I would have to contact Performance Fitness Systems. I explained that their numbers were disconnected. I was again informed that I must contact the reseller. Finally after being on hold for 15 minutes I was told a claim would be filed "Is there anything else?" I ende up tracking down contact info for Source-Plus. Talked to a guy named Rick and he said they would send me a base. I guess we'll see. Right now I have a $329.00 door stop.

I think from now on I'll stick to only ordering books from Amazon. If that.
