3.0 out of 5 stars CAPITALISM AT ITS BEST
WHILE THIS BOOKS CONTENTS ARE WELL WRITTEN I QUESTION ITS MOTIVES. THE AUTHOR MAKES IT CLEAR THAT YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE A PRODUCT THAT CAN ONLY BE FOUND FROM ONE SOURCE THROUGH THE MAIL. HE MENTIONS NO SUBSTITUTIONS OR PRICES AND NO SAMPLES, SO IF YOU CAN'T STAND THE TASTE, YO'URE STUCK. I STAY CLEAR OF THESE KIND OF CAPITALISTIC COME ONS.

The book is fast reading and to the point. This is not the kind of diet everyone can handle, but it worked wonders for my husband and me. We are in our 50's and I have struggled with my weight most of my life. I expected minimal results but was pleasantly surprised that I lost 11 lbs. the first two-week fast and 14 lbs. the second with the recommended three weeks in between fasts. There was no yo-yo effect afterwards. We are just entering our third fast and look forward to utilizing this method to achieve and maintain our ideal weight.

Not having solid food for two weeks at a time is a major deal to many people. But think about how much time during the day is taken up in planning, purchasing, preparing, eating and cleaning up after meals. Fasting is almost a vacation to a busy person. Also, the savings in food more than makes up for the cost of the supplement. I'm familiar with other liquid diet programs that have comparable if not higher costs associated with them. To skeptics, I would have to say "Don't knock it until you've tried it."

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't knock it until you try it, May 4, 2000
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
I really tired of reading the reviews of the people who have never tried this diet and were bashing it. You who are so worried about whether it tastes good or not do not have the intestinal fortitude to begin with to attempt to lose weight on any diet. I have tried this diet and have lost 20 pounds successfully in 2 weeks with only a gain of 1 lb. Sure it was difficult for the first two days, but after the third day it was smooth sailing. The powder tastes like soy milk and if you are really serious about losing weight, you can deal with it and drink it. It is not a life-long diet so two weeks is not alot to ask to give it a try - that is if you aren't too busy bashing it due to the lack of courage to try it. Many of my friends waited to see how it worked for me and now are trying it because they can't believe the speed of the results. For those of you who are looking for an honest, first hand account - IT WORKS WONDERS - and of course you need to eat healthy at the end of the diet. You are not hungry and do not crave food so there will be no urge to run out to McDonalds and gorge yourself. Many people have asked me if I had the urge to cheat just once and my response was NO. Once you realize that every day you wake up there will be a noticeable difference in your weight, you are more motivated to stick to it more than ever. Those who really want to lose weight and have the inner strength - try it - and then share your reviews with others. Those who don't, keep following the Atkin's diet until your cholesterol goes through the ceiling and then, after you've gained more weight than you started at, try this - it works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Read the book - Enjoy the diet, January 9, 2000

While the book might lack some details and explanations, the diet itself definitely works. I lost 10 pounds in 5 days and didn't suffer from any problems during that period or afterwards. I haven't regained any weight, I even lost another pound after I finished the diet. Having to buy a fairly high-priced protein powder might look like a marketing trick, but on the other hand you save money, because you don't eat as usual... And since the diet worked for me, I didn't really bother too much.

PS: My father dieted for 7 days and lost 15 pounds, gaining only 2 pounds afterwards.

4.0 out of 5 stars Finally a diet that works!, October 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
The book rambles on for pages and pages about Lucy who lived 5 million years ago and goes on to explain that our metabolism has not adapted to our modern lifestyle. After this lengthy discourse, Markert explains the metabolic processes. Recent research seems to show that the "feedback loops" controlling fat deposits are much more complicated than is often assumed. They involve the thyroid gland, liver, hormones, cell metabolism, blood sugar and even certain parts of the brain. This core information is presented rather incoherently. Markert bases his dieting concept on the conclusions he drew from this research. Basically, the idea is to burn off fat without depriving the body of essential nourishment. If you look closely at other diets, you'll find that they're based on withholding something that your body needs, such as carbohydrates or proteins. But as soon as your body gets carbohydrates or proteins again, it will immediately create fat deposits, since it may have to do without one of these again sometime. These diets trick your body instead of using it's physiological processes to best advantage. This is what sets Markert's diet apart. But the message doesn't come across very well. The subsequent dieting instructions are very skimpy and the FAQ section may not answer all of one's questions. As to the diet itself: it worked for my wife and me. Having followed many of the diets propagated over the years, and always winding up with more pounds than we started with, we were more than sceptical of this protein diet. The yo-yo effect seems to be drastically reduced. You will not be hungry after the first few days and, upon completion of the diet, you'll most probably want to eat less. This will thus make it easier to change your eating habits. I've had high blood pressure for years. Now it's down to normal. I don't know whether this can be attributed directly to Markert's diet or to a loss of weight in general, but that was certainly a most welcome "side effect". In all fairness, I must state that I read the original German book; the English version may differ. As for the reviews being fixed: others, I don't know, this one is definitely not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy weight-loss tool!, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
Dr. Dieter Markert, a German anesthetist and pain specialist, has studied the course of human nourishment throughout history. His studies, many of which were published in medical journals in Germany, led him to create a revolutionary diet that is based on a Nobel prize winning discovery about proteins in combination with enzymes. Unlike conventional diets, The Turbo Protein Diet does not simply eliminate water and burn off muscle tissue from the body, according to Dr. Markert. It actually burns fat. The thyroid gland function is stimulated, causing an increase in certain hormones that speed up the calorie-burning metabolism to such a high rate that no more fat can be stored. The diet's phenomenal success is based on using the body's own physiological process to achieve a healthy reduction in weight, whereby also cleansing the body. A weight loss of 6 to 9 pounds per week is achievable and Dr. Markert recommends staying on the diet for only two weeks at a time. His patients are successful at losing weight and increasing their metabolic rate and keeping the weight off. I've had great results, thanks to the book!

4.0 out of 5 stars This WORKS!, October 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
I have been kind of amused at the comments from people who state that they aren't seeing posts from people who have lost weight, and from those that insist that this book is a marketing ploy. So here's my 2 cents worth: this diet works. 2 weeks is not a long time to fast and you are getting plenty of protein while doing it, which is the main concern. I am down 8 pounds beginning day 5. I am not overly hungry. I do NOT use the Almased powder--YOU DON'T NEED TO. I agree that that powder is expensive. I use a custom blend protein powder sweetened with Splenda, add some flax powder to each shake and a bit of half and half. And I'm losing fine. So, I would say to look at the book for the basic premise of the program, not specific products. (Sorry, Dieter) Just get a shake mix that you like that is low carb--VERY low carb. Mine is 1 carb gram per serving. I tried just about every diet out there, including all the low carb ones, and I will go back to low carb for maintenance. But I hardly lost anything. This is working for me. And I emphasize ME. Those of you who bash the book and preach "the only way to lose is" need to remember that everyone is different and not everyone responds the same way. If you are insulin resistant, as I am, eating high carb, low fat is a sure guarantee for me to put on weight. But maybe not for others. So, please bear that in mind while you are unfairly criticizing what the majority of posts are reporting as excellent results!

4.0 out of 5 stars Come Join Us!, October 10, 2000

This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
When did fasts become a new thing? Many people throughout the world do them. However, this fast is done in a more safe manner by utilizing protein shakes, rather than sugery, high carb (and high appetite stimulating!) ones like SlimFast. By taking in good amounts of carbs, the body will not burn muscle for fuel - it will burn fat, generating ketones, which will be expelled in the urine, just like the Atkins and low carb version of Protein Power. I want to lose wgt., have stalled with multiple diets, including low carb. This diet is just what my body needs to jumpstart me into wgt. loss again. I've been corresponding with other Turbo Proteiners on thathomesite.com/forums - Diet Club. Come join us for support in your wgt. loss efforts! Don't knock it until you've tried it. By the way, people on our site are having great success with other protein powders (cheaper ones, too!)

4.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST DIET FOR ME!, September 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
I've tried them all, this was just what I needed to get some pounds off fast. 12# in 11 days. I have more energy than being on diet pills. I'm female, 50 yrs. old, 5'3", weighed 139# got down to 127# and will finish this two week program. After two weeks of normal eating I'll start up on The Turbo Protein Diet again for another two weeks or until I reach 115-120#. The $75.00 for two weeks is much less than what I would normally spend on food and drinks. The book makes sense to me, I drink the protein powder with fat-free milk and make my own broth. If I have a social function I drink a shake before going and always have a glass of water in my hand. There is nothing more motivating than getting on the scale everyday and seeing a weight loss. My thanks to all who wrote reviews, they really got me started and continue to keep me motivated.

5.0 out of 5 stars This REALLY works!, June 3, 2000

This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
I agree with the ones who say "Don't bash it till you've tried it." This diet really does work and I'm living proof of that. I lost 20 pounds in two weeks and went from a size 14 to a 10. I can't wait to do it again in a couple weeks. This has truly been the miracle I've been looking for. I didn't believe that it would work like that, but it did. I am getting more attention from men now and I am much happier. It has freed me from the bonds of fatness and low self-esteem. I would recommend this to anyone. The book could have a few more minor details, but I found it to be quite clear. Just do what it says.

5.0 out of 5 stars Turbo Protein Diet, July 11, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Turbo-Protein Diet: Stop Yo-Yo Dieting Forever (Paperback)
I previously lost weight on the Atkins Diet and gained 14 pounds of the 26 that I lost back ,in about 18 months. After a while I just could not keep it off, no matter what. I read about this book and decided to see if it worked. I followed the instructions exactly and lost 14 pounds in 10 days. The first day was hard, the second was even harder, but after that I sailed along and burned fat steadily. I literally watched my various fat pads disappear each day ! I love the way I feel. Now, I highly recommend this book to anyone.
