change in TurboTax restrictions of use,
By
This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
TurboTax initially upset its long-time users (such as those, like me, who went back to Mac-in-Tax era) by planning to impose a fee for multiple printing of returns. Those of us who find the need to print out sample copies to check over, or who have more than one person in the same household needing to file a separate return, were horrified. They have since changed the policy and now state: "Prepare and print unlimited federal returns; e-file up to five federal returns (per IRS guidelines) at no additional charge"
I'm pleased they have responded to their customers. And, I'm pleased they continue to make a Mac version available.

TurboTax 2008 Too Taxing for Families,
By
This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Be aware! Do you have children or parents that you have been filing returns for? The Intuit TurboTax 2008 license pricing is a dramatic change to your tax preparation expense!
With TurboTax 2007, I completed our return and a return for each of my three minor children. Preparation of up to five returns was included. This year, Intuit wants me to pay a significantly higher price for the first return and pay another $10 for each of my kids returns. You pay when you get to the printing phase, AFTER you have transferred and filled in all of that important information. Intuit says they have included a federal e-file at no additional charge. If this is all true, what is the 60% price increase Intuit is asking me to pay this year going to do for me? Even if all you do is your own return, can you believe, with that higher price, that a federal e-file is included at no extra charge? I have been a TurboTax/MacInTax user for around 20 years but when e-filing has become something Intuit forces everyone to buy, even those who cannot or do not want to use it, it becomes clear that Intuit has lost its way. Intuit lost a very dedicated customer today. My strong recommendation is that you consider H&R Block's Tax Cut before you decide which tax preparation product to purchase this year.

Extra Charge for every return printed,
By
This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Intuit has raised the price of the product this year with a basically hidden fee. Every time you print a separate return you have to pay an additional fee. NOTE: the fee is not an efile fee... you are charged even if you don't efile but simply want to print another return on your own printer at home! I find this completely unacceptable and after years of using TurboTax I'm going to switch... bye Intuit. Hope you learn that you actually have to treat your customers as if they have some value... you are here because of us, not in spite of us!

Wow. I guess I'm about the only person who never used Turbo Tax for more than one return. I never would have THOUGHT of using it for more than one return. Didn't know I could and didn't need to anyway.
For my (& my spouse's) use it works perfectly well and at a cost that isn't out of line. I paid less for it this year than I did last year. Plus the e-file's already covered. I've got no complaints. (there's a straight $10 rebate out there if you look for it or you can check out TT's site for comparison shopping) Regardless...I like the software, I like the results, I've used it for many years and I won't stop now. It's still a good deal for one-filers like me. And according to TurboTax's response to the uproar, it's now even a better deal for people filing multiple returns.

Hidden Price Increase if you need Sched D support,
By Miller Craine "Miller" (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

I have used TurboTax Deluxe for 12 years. I have always felt that the product was good, but was annoyed by the nickel and diming feature set. To that end, for 2008 I can deal with the price increase with "included" e-filing. I can deal with the pocket picking for filing additional returns. But I cannot deal with the elimination of Schedule D support forcing me to purchase the Premier version at nearly double the price. I am going to TaxACT.

Ridiculous abuse of customers,

This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
Intuit's upfront and hidden price increase this year is the most abusive attitude toward customers I've seen from corporate America in a long time, not to mention deceitful since it's hidden behind the "free efile" marketing hype. I've been an automatic subscriber for years. That's ending NOW! They even chose on their own to bill me for a Federal+state+efile product, and HEY...I'm in Texas and we don't even have a state income tax....wake up Intuit and smell the loss of business.

I have used Turbotax for 10 years now. I went to Walmart and found that the price of Turbotax Deluxe had nearly doubled this year and that Intuit is offering free efiles, but adding hidden fees too. Well, I decided that it is cheaper to order it online from Amazon ($20 less) and assumed that Turbotax Deluxe included State taxes. I noticed that some boxes come with federal and state advertised and some just have Federal + Efile. Bob Meighan (VP of Customer service at Intuit) stated that state tax was an included product with all the Turbotax Deluxe packages? I have personally spoken to a customer I sold the Deluxe Federal + Efile and she said she had to download the state tax for $40 + the cost of efiling. This is outright deception on the part of Intuit and I will not use their products based on this embarrassment alone. Now, this made me look like a liar in front of my customers because of information from Intuit that I was given. I am going to be switching over to another brand of tax and financial software from now on!
My message to Intuit is simple- Put a product out there that is straight forward and with NO hidden fees, deception, and other greedy nickle & diming gimmicks to squeeze more money out of customers. Thats what customers appreciate!! You have a good product, but your loosing market share with all your hidden fees, false advertising, and other gimmicks, which is driving customers away by the thousands. Then after the damage is done, you send out Intuit Reps to try to do Damage Control and post positive messages about dropping some of the fees. Sounds like some idiot is steering the boat over at Intuit!!

losing ground with features,

I do not believe what Turbo tax is doing this year. First charging for printing multiple returns and efiles. Now I find out that the Deluxe edition which for years has included Investment help, does not have it. Tax Zero should be the new name.

Installing ERRORS,
By
This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I just bought the 2008 version and I can't even install it. I spent 5 hours trying to fix errors. In the end, you can't uninstall it and you can't install due to errors. During my final call to customer service, the tech said "We are working on fixing the errors, but we don't know when it will be resolved". Well, tell that to the IRS and YOUR CUSTOMERS!!! I am not a hater. I have used this product, error free for years and loved it... but until they fix this GARBAGE... DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!

Didn't the fee go away?,
This review is from: TurboTax Deluxe Federal + eFile 2008 [OLD VERSION] (CD-ROM)
I think the revolt has worked. Please correct me if this is in error, but while reading reviews on cnet.com I came across this article:
Intuit backtracks on new TurboTax fees, dated Dec 12, 2008. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1001_3-10121444-92.html?subj=news&tag=2547-1_3-0-20&part=sphere (4 stars just to get attention to post, and NO, I don't work for Intuit, but I am a stockholder) |
