There are about 100 recipes in this book. It is set up more like a coffee table book than a cookbook. There are a lot of colour pictures of not just the food (most recipes have a full page colour picture of the dish), but also pictures of the people and items such as pottery. There is a good introduction to Turkey and the recipes have well written explanations and instructions on how to make the dish.

Ingredients for the most part are not exotic, but ones you can obtain in most grocery stores. The recipes themselves are not difficult, even a beginning, determined cook could successfully negotiate the recipes.
Dishes include:meze(appetizers), soups, bread, pastry and pasta, vegetables and salads, rice and bulgur, fish and seafood, poultry and meat and desserts. We have enjoyed, sweet Tahini spirals, simit, pide (different types of bread), and homemade pasta with arugula feta walnuts and herbs.
This is an interesting book to add to your cookbook collection.

I know the author, and I have cooked from this book for personal and commercial work and find it wonderful, my peers in the food industry also agree. The recipes are Leanne's interpretations as clearly stated and if one of the best Turkish chefs in Australia rates it, then that's good enough for me. I would highly recommend it and through my job I get sent hundreds of cookbooks a year to review and this makes the top 5.

I first saw this book at a neighborhood shop and was instantly drawn to it. I visited Istanbul four years ago and spent six days sampling culinary highlights in between stops to the various sights. That visit made such an impression on me and I have been wanting to go back ever since.

What I love about this book is that it richly and colorfully depicts what I felt so deeply when I was there - plentiful and diverse food types, rich culinary histories and stories, a people with a rich history of cuisine development, and fresh everything.

I must confess that I have not used a single recipe yet (just received the book a few days ago). I would recommend this as a coffee table book, a conversation starter, an introduction to the ingredients and techniques of one of the great and less-known cuisines outside of . Be prepared to be hungry. You will be inspired to cook and even more to travel.

Food is so intrinsically tied to a culture and tells the story of their history and environment. I can't think of anywhere where this is more important than Turkey, where east and west are intrinsically tied together and fought over for thousands of years.

This may be the best possible cookbook of Turkish food. Excellent, clearly presented recipes interspersed with engaging stories about Turkish regions and experiences in the country, and beautifully illustrated into the bargain. A very worthwhile purchase.

One of the things I really like about this cookbook is that there are parts of recipes (i.e. sauces like Spicy Bell Pepper Puree, or Garlic Sauce) that can be made to go with anything you might already have in the fridge. You don't necessarily have to make a whole new dish. The photos are beautiful, and the author's text is actually informative & educational. I definitely recommend.
