Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreSchool- Grade 3—As Thanksgiving approaches, Turkey fears that he will be the centerpiece of the holiday meal. Thus begins his quest for the perfect disguise so he won't be found when the time arrives. He ties a brush on the back of his head and wears a tiny saddle because surely no one would eat a horse for dinner. But the animals still recognize him. He tries to become a cow, a pig, a sheep, and a rooster. He does not look like any of them. When he hears Farmer Jake tell his wife that if they can't find the turkey, maybe they should eat the rooster for dinner, the protagonist comes up with the perfect ruse. This book is as silly as Denys Cazet's offerings about Minnie and Moo (HarperCollins) and just as funny. Harper's comical watercolor illustrations pair naturally with Silvano's clever, filled-with-wordplay text. A first choice for holiday collections.—Mary Hazelton, Elementary Schools in Warren & Waldoboro, ME END

Review

"Stuffed with clever wordplay, groanable puns, and easy-to-ham-it-up animal sounds, the chuckle-inducing narrative makes a crowd-pleasing read-aloud. Turkey's getups are exuberantly silly and the animals' sardonic facial expressions are sublime." -School Library Journal

"Kids will eat this up this clever and comical tale."

Let me start by saying our bookshelves are overflowing with picture books! I am certifiably a children's book addict. I'm happy to say that this one has not made it to the shelf yet because my kids keep requesting me to read it- yes everynight! I'm also happy to say that I am not tired of it yet. My kids giggle at the creative illustrations by Lee Harper and the funny & fabulous use of words by Wendy Silvano "Holy Cow Turkey!" My daughter has a birthday party today and she picked this book to give as a present which thrilled me! There is truly nothing better than giving or getting books as birthday or holiday gifts, except of course books signed by the author or illustrator :) or a book paired with a pair of pajamas!

My kindergarten kids simply love this book! After reading this book I sent home a turkey die cut and had students disguise their own turkeys. They came back so cute! We had an angel turkey, a Peyton Manning turkey, a wrestler, a dancer, hidden by camo and many more. Great book to use in any K-3 classroom.

I keep reading picture books in hopes of finding a good one. In most cases I just shake my head and wonder how the book ever got published. Not so with Turkey Trouble. The text is very cute and the illustrations are outstanding. This book will have both adults and kids chuckling. I would absolutely recommend this book without hesitation. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

This book had very small words. My son liked it and it's good for young ones before Thanksgiving. The pictures were ok and the ending was cute.

Funny story for kids with a nice surprise ending. An easy read. We will read again soon. And maybe we won't eat Turkey this year.
