No explanations and very boring,

This is a set of 2 tapes and a bookLET NOT a book as you are led to think.The tapes are simply repetitions of words and phrases in Turkish and the booklet has them in written form with the translation. First of all there are no dialogues, only lists and lists and lists and more lists of words and short phrases repeated over and over again. This becomes unbelievably boring after about 2 minutes of listening because nothing is in a context. Second of all, there are no explanations as to what the separate words in the short phrases mean and how these phrases or sentences are formed therefore, in my opinion, you are not learning the language at all, only memorizing odds and ends without gaining any actual ability of ever putting a new or slightly different sentence together on your own or undersanding anything that is said even slightly differently from the way it is said on the tapes. The only time this set can actually be useful is if you use it simply for pronunciation or to learn a couple of interesting phrases in addition to a book which you may allready own. One that I highly recommend is Teach Yourself Turkish by Asuman Celen Pollard and David Pollard.
