A Great Jazz Harmonica Album!!!, January 8, 2003
This review is from: Turk's Works (Audio CD)
Mike Turk has been playing the harmonica since his teens and has developed a talent for tastefully playing both the diatonic and chromatic versions of the instrument. Over the years he's performed and recorded with The Tempations, Van Dyke Parks, The Boston Jazz Ensemble and others as well as appearing on the soundtracks of the movies Lonestar, Dick Tracy and City of Hope.
On this solo release mike Turk gives us a great sampling of what he is capable of. The CD contains a number of standards by composers like George Gershwin, Ray Noble, Rogers & Hart, Bud Powell and others as well as a couple of his own compositions. The Jazz combo he has chosen to back him are tight and the arrangements do their best to emphasize the harmonica with letting it overpower the rest of the group.
The end result is a thoroughly enjoyable sampling of Mike Turk's great talent. I hope to hear a lot more of him in the future. I definitely recommend that you add this CD to your collection at once.

Incredible Harmonica magic, May 28, 2000

Swinging take on both the familiar and the less known. His newest CD "Mike Turk with the Alkaline Jazz Trio-- A little Taste of Cannonball" (organic music 9708) is also a must, but I've only seen it available in Europe, probably also on his web page -- Both discs are great.
