5.0 out of 5 stars The Vogues: The Return Of The Good Old Songs, February 7, 2003

Hats off to producer, Bill "Chess" Inglot's work in bringing back two of the best albums The Vogues have ever done on one CD.
The rich harmony and instrumental background are still there, and without the clicks and pops that came with the original vinyl recordings.

Although, I have to disagree with the other reviewer's reason for The Vogues disappearance from the spotlight - they were swindled out of the right to use their own group name to perform or record under by a manager at 20th Century Records. And, since then, some counterfeit "Vogues" have been performing their songs throught the years and taking credit for the work of the original Vogues. Go to vogues.com and what you'll see won't be the original members of The Vogues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Vogues Album, January 17, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Turn Around, Look at Me/Till (Audio CD)
The Vogues vocal talent is unsurpassed. In the 1960's they faded due to bad choices on songs. For some reason, someone told them a return to the good old songs of the 1940's and 1950's was the way to go. Mistake. But Turn Around Look at Me did not fall prey to that philosophy. It is by far the best album The Vogues ever did. It truly displays their talent. I've been a Vogues fan for 35 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Vogues Remastered Cd long overdue Buy This for your Sweetheart, August 15, 2006

This review is from: Turn Around, Look at Me/Till (Audio CD)
Finally a Vogues Remastered CD long overdue. This is the reprise material where Can I even begin there Version of My Special Angel which blows away the Bobby Helms original with there Lettermen like Mellow harmonies. The same can be said for Turn Around Look At Me. Which were the 2 big releases on the reprise label. Boy did Bill Inglot do a good job of remastering this one. Sounds so crystal Clear without the noises in the original master tapes. Now if the early material would be remastered that would be nice. Those discs are old realeases and before remastering. Great ballads all around with The Vogues having that Lettermen type sound Til, So This Is Love,The Impossible Dream. There all good I hit the Playback button on Turn Around Look At Me and My Special Angel love the Harmonies so beautiful and mellow it will put you to sleep. And those 2 songs make me think of someone special in my life. The difference between this and the early stuff is the later stuff is in stereo where as the early stuff a lot of it was in mono. Buy this one for your sweetheart and show them how much you care about them. Enjoy this collection of great mushy ballads.

'Turn Around, Look At Me' was The Vogues' first album on major label Reprise Records. After the tiny Pittsburgh based Co & Ce Records folded in 1967, The Vogues were signed to Reprise (Sinatra's label) in 1968. It was during the Reprise years that The Vogues had the most success, as they took on a more serious and mature sound. The Vogues used a proven formula of updating vocal standards, successfully covering and in many ways improving classics like 'Turn Around, Look At Me', 'My Special Angel', 'Till', 'Earth Angel' and 'Moments to Remember.'

Recorded in L.A. featuring The Vogues' smooth vocals and superb four part harmonies, they are backed by a studio orchestra arranged & conducted by Ernie Freeman (including some of the hot session players of the day ie- Hal Blaine, Mike Melvoin, Ray Pohlman, etc.) and produced by Dick Glasser. This is probably the best out of The Vogues' five Reprise albums, and was very successful, reaching #29 as indicated above. Two big hits, several well chosen covers, and a few originals make up the bulk of this album. When released as singles, 'Turn Around, Look At Me' reached #3 on the AC charts and #7 Pop in June 1968. 'My Special Angel' shot right up to #1 on the AC charts and reached #7 on the Pop charts in August 1968.

Taragon did a good job remastering the tracks, but I wish Reprise/WEA would've remastered them, as their Import 'Best Of' CD sounds much better as far as quality goes...still, great CD here and I highly recommend it.

This album is a great trip back through memory lane. For anyone who grew up with the music of the Vogues, this album will allow you to relive your emotions from back when - especially if you were "in love" back then. The quality of the recordings are awesome as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Vogues raise the bar--and score a huge GOAL with this two-fer CD, March 1, 2008

Turn Around, Look At Me/Till is a very good two-fer CD that has al the tracks from two of the record albums by The Vogues entitled Turn Around, Look At Me and Till. The sound quality is rather good; and I like the artwork.

"I Keep It Hid" starts off the track set with a passionate love ballad that The Vogues deliver so well it really impresses me greatly. I really like "I Keep It Hid." "So This Is Love" never sounded better than when The Vogues sang it; and they never miss a beat. One thing that strikes me as being very special is how well The Vogues could harmonize and yet have one singer break out and sing an extra line or two. Great!

"The Impossible Dream" gets the royal treatment from The Vogues; they deliver this ballad and make it sound like pure silk when they do this one up right! The Vogues sound strong and full of warmth and true feeling; this all works very well. "My Special Angel" shines equally bright in their capable hands; and this tune alone proves beyond a doubt that The Vogues were a very fine group. "Come Into My Arms Again" is a quite strong number with an arrangement that seems like light pop or maybe even "mood music." "Come Into My Arms Again" features The Vogues singing straight from their hearts.

"Turn Around, Look At Me" is, in retrospect, one of their greatest accomplishments ever; this tune still gets airplay on some radio stations today all these years alter. "Turn Around, Look At Me" stuns me with its beauty; it's truly a classic. "I've Got My Eyes On You" continues the smooth, silky sound of The Vogues who deliver this in a way that just no other group could ever do. "I've Got My Eyes On You" also uses the strings to great advantage.

"On Broadway" gets a fine rendition from The Vogues; and there's also "A Taste Of Honey." I always like to hear "A Taste Of Honey;" and when The Vogues sing it they do a wonderful job of performing this with great sensitivity and style. "Till" is yet another beautiful ballad that The Vogues bat straight out of the ballpark; I really enjoy listening to this group singing "Till."

The CD ends well with "Woman Helping Man." This love tune features The Vogues singing so sweetly; these men really had incredible talent and "Woman Helping Man" is a very strong ending for this album.

Overall, fans of The Vogues will see this as a must-have for their collections. Fans of oldies and music from the `60s may also enjoy this CD very much.

I loved this album when I was young, and I was thrilled to have them brought to mind again. I listen to the album all the time, along with a couple of other groups from that time, namely the Four Aces and The Hilltoppers. However, the Vogues are tops in my book.
