5.0 out of 5 stars The Ex - Turn, September 14, 2004

This record is fantastic.

The Ex have gone in a new and exciting direction with this double cd. There is alot of African music mixed in the noise; the lyrics are powerful, the noise is organized yet frantic, still with a very punk attitude....like every Ex record.

I would recommend this album highly. I just saw them on their European tour a bunch, and the live experience is second to none.

The Ex have been around for 25 years now, and get better with every record. Pick it up, listen at maximum volume, it will supprise you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity at it's most Engaging, July 6, 2008

This review is from: Turn (Audio CD)
At first blush the music here seems too minimalist to maintain attention. After the first go round of this pair of CDs I put it in the "try again later" stack. Very rhythmic, predictable, and eventually, entirely enchanting punk rock. When I did pull it out again it struck me just right. Fans of skronky, nonmelodic, pulsing noise rock will rejoice.

What makes the Ex stand out from 10,000 other bands that can and do sound like this? Good question. You'll have to give it spin on your player to find out.

Execution counts for more than technique sometimes!

But the drumming is what keeps it lively. Rich pulsing percussion. At times reminds me Savage Republic, mixed with the non-casio side of Trio.

3.0 out of 5 stars Invention, September 16, 2004
This review is from: Turn (Audio CD)
This is a music invention. The attitude makes this work. What could be almost deliberately unusual and unbelievable manages to suck you in. pretty darn good and fresh
