1.0 out of 5 stars Sorry, but it was disappointing for me.
I did not find ANY thing there that are new for me. All information was VERY basic.
Besides, I don't think that this book will help you with ANSWER to question "HOW to turn an interview into a job?".
If you don't have any idea about resume and interview I think it's probably better to buy:

This review is from: How to Turn an Interview Into a Job (A fireside book) (Paperback)
Allen's book is concise and packed with information anyone going to an interview needs to know. It is extremely easy to read and has no useless information-just direct pointers on what you need to do to land a job. By understanding what the interviewer is looking for and preparing answers to difficult questions like "what makes you angry", "what kinds of people do you dislike", and "why aren't you earning more money", anyone heading to an interview can feel prepared and at ease. I landed a good job and attribute the success of my interview directly to "How To Turn An Interview Into A Job". More than half of the questions I was asked were in this book and the rest were covered in the book in a more general way. This is a "must have" for anyone who is serious about seeking employment.

If you don't have any idea about resume and interview I think it's probably better to buy:

2.) 10 insider secrets to job hunting success;
3.) Gallery of best resumes;
4.) How to knock `em dead (interview questions).

Also I found "Here is my card "book. I think some info there is interesting and useful.

Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Down to earth, candid, to the point, superb., September 5, 1999

This review is from: How to Turn an Interview Into a Job (A fireside book) (Paperback)
A great little book that can be read in an hour or two, yet provides concised "what, where, whom, and how to answer" interview questions. It also provides with a backbone format to get that job in 12 steps. Everything from what and how to write your CV, to making that first phone call, to the interview process, and finally to the post-interview follow up. It gives you tools to play the intervewer to your benefit without the interviewer even realizing he/she is just been set up to say, "you got the job."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent For Anyone Who Needs To Nail an Interview, October 28, 1997
By
This review is from: How to Turn an Interview Into a Job (A fireside book) (Paperback)
Unlike other books that offer interviewing tips, this book doesn't spend time on things that won't be useful in an interview. The author emphasizes methods -- he has a no-nonsense 12-step guide to help anyone who is nervous about an interview to put their anxiety behind and turn themselves into a confident interviewee. He tells you what to expect and how to respond to what you will be facing. There is even a clear, reader-friendly Q&A section that lists questions that your interviewer might ask you and the kind of answers you should use in order to best reflect who you are and why you are good for the job. The unthinkable could happen (not getting the offer), the author says, no matter how well the interview went --- but it's not the end of the world! This, I think, is what makes this book stand out from others: no matter how well you have prepared, you should still be realistic, yet hopeful until the end. The author even puts in a few inspirational quotations that an interviewee would find soothing. This book has a simple mission: to coach you to get the job you want, and the methods to achieving this objective. This is a thin little book that anyone who needs to nail an interview can benefit from.

1.0 out of 5 stars outdated -- first published in 1983!, October 14, 2009
This book seems written for the previous generation of job seekers. It was first published in 1983, 26 years ago! No wonder it seems so old fashioned. If you talk the way he suggests you talk in an interview in 2009, people will think you are a robot.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, December 4, 2003
By
This review is from: How to Turn an Interview Into a Job (A fireside book) (Paperback)
I left school about 18 years ago armed with a copy of this book. The book helped me get offers or at least second interviews in about 75% of my attempts. From my experience, you'll do quite well in the interview if you take the author's advice. You'll actually feel positive energy flowing during the interview if you are using the techniques from the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It got me the job, February 26, 2009
This review is from: How to Turn an Interview Into a Job (A fireside book) (Paperback)
I picked up this book randomly in 2004 when I was applying for a new job. I credit it for landing me the position. I can't understand the reviewer who found it completely useless. Did they even read it? Some of the tips are dynamite if you use them, but I can see in a way how some readers would overlook them because they seem so simple. I have given away my copy to a friend and only yesterday recommended the book again to another friend. That's why I find myself once again on Amazon. Oh, and by the way, the number one tip from this book is that you must send a correctly worded letter to your interviewer after the interview. You would be amazed how few people do that. Remember, you are in a competition when you are going for a job. This book has the small pieces of advice to set you apart from the competition. It worked for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read... Will Get you atleast a second interview!, August 31, 2007
By
After thumbing through this book I learned more in a few hours than I have in the last 6 months. Like previous reviews have stated its straight forward and to the point. There are a few do's and dont's that are common sense, but you must make that call for yourself. There are also a few suggestions the author made that I feel were slightly inappropriate for certain interviewing situations. If you are an individual with sound mind and judgment then this book will be your guiding light through the oh so dark tunnel of job hunting!!! Good Luck!
