Let's face it, you've probably looked at the two stars that I've given this book and thought 'why so low?' I'll tell you why. It's not because the spells in this book don't work, it's just because the authors didn't give all the necessary information about spell casting.

I was surprised to find that I really learnt alot from the spells and the cool way it's written. The writers don't talk down to you or make you feel like magick is impossible to do. All the ingredients and the instructions are clearly set out and I have to thank the authors for bringing me into the world of magick (which was missing in my life) I now write a lot of spells myself and have gone on to buy and study many more books and information. but I will always cherish this in my book collection as what got my attention and awakened my spirit. P.S. some of you previous guys, wake up feel the magick (and get a sense of humor!)

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for spells, nothing else, September 4, 2000
Let's face it, you've probably looked at the two stars that I've given this book and thought 'why so low?' I'll tell you why. It's not because the spells in this book don't work, it's just because the authors didn't give all the necessary information about spell casting.

They make out that all you need to do is burn a candle with a picture of your ex lover and say a few words (or something similar.) This is simply not true. You need a lot of factors to make magick work. First, a strong will for the spell to work, otherwise it's useless. Also belief that the spell will work, else the chances are it won't. Moon phase is also important as is mental condition and experience of the practicioner.

There are a lot of things that need to be considered before attempting a spell. A divination should also be done before spell casting, otherwise the grey magick you are casting might turn to black. For example, if you did a spell for money, then your mother died leaving you some, this would be grey magick turned black and would result in you being the victim of Karma (this is basically the law; what goes around comes around; whatever you put out comes back to you. Wiccans believe that you get it back three fold.) Therefore, if you do a tarot reading (or something similar) first, then it could be a lot safer for you and others.

I'm sure those of you with no magickal knowledge who just want to cast love spells or whatever will ignore this advice, but I strongly suggest you don't. Also, for those of you who are serious about magick and what to bring it into your life properly, then may I suggest Donald Michael Kraig's 'Modern Magick' as this is the best book I've ever found on the subject. Thanks for reading this, I hope it was helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE TOAD RULES! GREAT SPELL THERAPY!, March 25, 1999
By A Customer
This is such a great book, I was very sceptical about spells and such before but this was so easy to read and it's really clever and brings good spiritual advice wrapped in a fun package. Anyone with a sense of humor and sense can see that the Toad spell is a positive and self esteem building exercise. I was in the middle of a very obsessive state of mind over a bad relationship and this book helped bring closure to many of the issues I was dealing with. I'm so glad it did because I was almost ready to do something pretty drastic and when I cast the Toad spell I couldn't believe how a big weight just lifted off my shoulders. There are lot's of other spells for love, health and beauty and I can't wait to try them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars FUN, FUNNY, REAL!, July 22, 2000
By
Books of Magick have a terrible tendency to take themselves too seriously. Not this one! Truth be told, most people want of Magick exactly what this book has to offer: more love, more money, more fun, and maybe just a teensey, weensey little bit of revenge. The spells included are easy enough for a beginner, fun for a more experienced witch, and useful for just about anyone. The book is even worth reading for the humor value alone. However, the authors do make it clear that Magick has repercussions, and in spite of its lighthearted tone, the seriousness of the Magickal acts are clear. So DO grab a copy...and lighten up!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice Title, May 9, 2006
By
OK, so I picked this one up off the discount book rack and paid a fraction of the asking price. I loved the box cover and if nothing else it would sit on my desk in my home office as a warning to others.

But I did crack it open. The contents are interesting. The box contains everything you need to do the "featured" spell or a few of the other spells in the book - candles, incense, books, mirror and a plastic green "toad" incense holder. And, of course, the spell book that provides the instructions for the spells.

The book does not start out with the "featured" spell, but wets the appetite with some other kinds of spell workings. Spells to find the "Perfect Soulmate" or "Hot Up you Sex Life" or "Forget Me Not". Each spell has a list of "ingredients" and contains the working for the spell, including moon phases and an "incantation". The spells are broken down into topics, like Love Spells, Naughty Spells for Naughty Girls, Home and Family Spells, The Rest of Your Life Spells and more.

But the one you bought this box for is The Toad Spell, found, you guessed it, under the Naughty Spells for Naughty Girls chapter. The ingredients that are not included in the box but necessary for the spell includes a handful of sandy dirt, a shirt from the toad and his picture with the option that you can draw one. There is more, but none of the items are included in the box. Just as an FYI, so you realize you will need more than what's in the box.

OK, some of the spells are hokey. It is more about doing for yourself and making for yourself. The Revenge spells are more about making yourself feel better now that the bum is gone. The Success spells are about attracting cash and success to yourself and are more along the lines of real spellworkings, in my opinion. But they too are filled with those little affirmations - such as "What You Think, You Become..."

I give it a few stars for "Entertainment Value" and for the affirmations. It can strike up a conversation, the frog is cute, and the candles are handy. The book, while a bit hokey is not totally without merit. It provides some affirmations for someone going through this kind of thing, and is more of a "Cool Down" process than a revenge type of book. Interesting but not something that is absolutely needed. boudica

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book!, December 26, 1999
By A Customer
I think it's a great book to boost your love for yourself. If some of the people who reviewed this book would have actually read it, they would see that there is nothing spiteful or un-Wiccan about it. It's all about the love for yourself and showing yourself you are better off without that toad! Never judge a book by its cover, and never review a book you have not read!

5.0 out of 5 stars a wonderful spell book for novice and experianced witches!!, April 28, 2001
By A Customer
This is a wonderful book that is a must-have for all women intrested in witchcraft.Although some may see it as selfish, the revenge spells are great too,and they really work!(you must remember, when casting a revenge spell, you can not inflict on your victim any pain that they have not given to you,so ITS ONLY FAIR!)-->the "toad spell" is fantastic! I cast the "bring back my love" spell on my internet love(who has been distant latley)and the next day he called for the first time!! The "lucky lottery"spell really works too! the spells are SO simple and the ingredents are so easy to find! and the book is so inexpensive too!! If you are a witch who can truley focus on your goal and believe that you can use magic to achieve it,,then this book is a must-buy! i can't wait to try every spell! thank god for Athena Starwoman and Deborah Grey!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book was my first spell book-and it's wonderful, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This book is a great book. Even though the title might suggest something else, DO NOT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!!! It even says in the book, it will not actually change the guy into a toad, it is just your way of over coming an ex-boyfriend. It gives you self esteem to do so, and this book is great! My friends and I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what you all think, November 30, 2001

Jillie (NJ United States) - See all my reviews
(...) This book is NOT bad or evil at all! It is a great little book to have...every witch should have this book! It's inspiring, and it's funny, and entertaining! On the back of the book, it says "Magic/Humor"...so don't take it TOO seriously. Magick is all in your head...if you believe that you can accomplish something, you can. I just read the entire book, and it was great! Athena and Deborah totally help you out in many ways. They give good advice, saying that you're beautiful and that you're better off without that toad of an ex. (YOu can't really turn your ex-bf into a toad, obviously). They include that the spells are still under the 'good' or 'white' category of spellcasting. A lot of the spells are just to make you feel better about yourself. If you want something bad enough you can have it, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else. :) Seriously, this book is great! It's not AT ALL like what the other reviews said here that I read, before I bought this book. I read every review on here about this book, and most of them were negative and I was a little scared to get this book. I decided to buy it, b/c the reviews here are just opinions, and I wanted to see for myself. I'm smart enough to tell what a good or evil spell is....most of the reviewers on here, haven't even read the book...they just judged it by it's title and cover. It's just a fun book to make you feel better about yourself, and to give you some sense of hope. These women who wrote the book, it feels as tho they really understand what us women have to go thru!!! They cover practically every aspect of being a woman today!! See for yourself what a great book this is!! Was alittle shocked at the size of the book, it is small. About the size of my hand. (...) Keep up the good work Athena, Deborah (...)!

4.0 out of 5 stars Please Dont Take its Title Literally................, May 27, 2004
-
Most people who wrote negative reviews about This book haven't read this book. This book is so wonderful.

These people wrote review without reading it.

Just think about it.Magic is neutral its in our hand to turn it White or Black.

We dont even need to cast any spell to do bad to someone.Even if we 'Think' of doing evil to someone continuously it will happen. But dont forget it will come back to you 3 folds (Law of Universe).

So even if there is some revenge spell,if you dont intend to do so then just ignore it & keep on reading other intresting spells like Money spell,Sucess Spells & Family Spells.

Read this book. Its much more than its Title. These two women(Authors)have done Wonderful Work.
