5.0 out of 5 stars Such a good resource May 14, 2011
By Mrs.CH3
Format:Paperback
Mayra Calvani has compiled this amazing book for girls ages 9-12 who want to start a book club and share their passion of reading with others, but maybe don't know where to begin.

Things she covers in this book includes:

- How to choose a book club name with your friends (Includes things to consider when coming up with a name)
- Inviting members (Includes what types of invitations to send and a sample invitation)
- Having your first meeting (Includes ideas on what to cover and how to choose your first book)
- Reading the book "smartly" (Questions to keep in mind while reading in order to have meaningful discussions about the
book)
and more!

This book will be such a phenomenal resource for those looking to start a book club and don't want it to be boooo-ring. Mayra covers so many important topics and in the book, children will find a checklist to make sure everything is complete and areas to scribble notes when considering specific important aspects of creating their book club.

I also like that this book puts the responsibility in the hands of the child wanting to start a book club. No more will it have to be the parents responsibility or a teachers responsibility. Instead, children can become more independent and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that they put together a book club all on their own.

In my opinion, this is an amazing reference that should be in school libraries and classrooms alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Star for Originality and Heart October 8, 2010
Format:Paperback
In these times when people say children don't read enough, along comes Mayra Calvani with this adorable little how-to book. What an idea! Turn reading into a party! A social event! A project! I hope teachers everywhere grab onto this idea as a way to encourage their students to read. And (of course!) use this booklet as their guide.

5.0 out of 5 stars HOW TO TURN YOUR BOOK CLUB INTO A SPECTACULAR EVENT October 3, 2010
Format:Paperback
Article first published as Book Review: How to Turn Your Book Club into a Spectacular Event by Mayra Calvani on Blogcritics.

Are you a book enthusiast? Are you passionate about sharing what you have read with friends? If you answered yes, you might want to consider starting a book club. If you are clueless on how to start a book club you must read Mayra Calvani's new book, How to Turn Your Book Club into a Spectactular Event.

This book is designed for girls aged nine and up. The book details the how, where, and when you can start a book club. The book is well thought through in order to make it easy for a young person to understand and put the suggestions to practical use.

The book has two sections. Part one explains the steps in starting a book club; part two is dedicated to the different book categories and genres. The author also gives many examples of categories and genres.

This is an ideal book for girls who love to read. They can take their reading to the next level by forming a club designed to discuss what they have read. I can see how forming a club will help enhance learning because one must pay attention to minute details in order to talk about what you have read to others.

Though the book is designed for teens, in my opinion young and old can benefit from reading it. After finishing it, I'm inspired to start a book club of my own. I'm even thinking about starting a book club with my middle and high school students.

The cover art by Kurt Ozinga is very appealing and pleasing to the eyes. Looking at the cover captivated me and made me want to read the book.

I am grateful to the author for providing me with a free copy of her book for review.
