This is an author whose work continues to delight . I was so pleased to see this the start of her new series and happily it doesn't disappoint . If you enjoy reading about vampires but want to engage your brain at the same time the this fits the bill quite nicely! If like me you enjoy a splash of romance then you've just hit the payload! Ms DePauls new series is a wonderful place to lose yourself in and I'm so glad I found it.
The FBI have been creating their own vampires but it's all gone horribly wrong! Ty is a turned vampire but he's working for the belladonna agency to try and clean up the mess. Rogue vampires are on the streets but maybe just maybe they can infiltrate the organisation with a little help but that help comes at a cost. Ana is an ex gang member and she's also the most tempting woman that Ty has ever seen! Persuading her to help is only the start of his problems though as he hates the monster he has become and now he burns for the feisty female. Getting close to the Rogues isn't going to be easy but when the natural born vampires learn what's happening all bets are off. Ana may not trust Ty but can she trust her feelings towards him? Ty's pulled in so many directions that a world of hurt looks inevitable.
This is the first book in this new series but already the author is setting up to give her readers a fabulous ride. Filled with characters that have depths and a fast twisting storyline that often surprises. Its so hard for authors to come up with a new twist on vampire romance but this author has managed to interest this reviewer and I'm keen to see where this storyline can possibly go. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to see what ms DePaul dreams up next.

I admit, I read some less than brilliant books from time to time. I admit I read my fair share of vampire books. I’m ashamed, but I admit it. But I prefer for them to be well plotted and to not throw every idea an author can think of into a story-gangs, Latino vs. white tensions, child abuse, spies, vampires, human trafficking and sex.

In Turned Ty and his secret FBI linked vampire group bring in their very own Charlies Angels to help them against a group of bad vampires! I liked the idea of vampires hidden among humans and the idea of vampires working together with the FBI-but the Charlie’s Angels plot style was just too silly for me.

I lost interest in Ty at the beginning — I can’t repeat the phrase he used for fear that my mother will read this-but I will say it ended with juice and ICK. I liked Ana a bit better, but there was just way too much going on in this book and I couldn’t build up much real interest in her either.

I understand the need to dump some information on the reader at the beginning of a book and especially in the beginning of a series, but DePaul dumped her background information every time a new character came into play basically. I did not need to read the story of the bad vampires turning humans over and over again through the book.

Turned is not your every day dark paranormal romance.

The FBI has tried their hand at creating vampires and it has literally come back to bite them. The same rogue faction the FBI allied themselves with is now forcibly changing and torturing agents, using illegal immigrants as blood slaves and murdering without discretion. Trying to take back control, FBI agent now turned vampire, Ty Duncan must enlist the help of Ana Martin to infiltrate this rogue band. Ana is the key because her sister and her ex-best friend are intimately connected to this rogue group.

I found Turned to be an enjoyable read. The story is fast paced and action filled. There were quite a few unexpected twists and some extremely strong sexual chemistry...providing hot and steamy scenes. The story did not provide me with any kind of character connection, keeping me from becoming completely invested in the character's outcome. What it lacked in connection, it gained in raw chemistry and explosive attraction between Ty and Ana.

For a highly enjoyable, dark, steaming hot, paranormal vampire read, check out Turned.

The story in a nutshell…

Ty Duncan is part of Belladonna, the agency tasked to take care of vampire issues or, in this case, catastrophic problems. They believe a private organization publicly known as a shelter and help group for immigrants is working with rogues, vampires who formerly worked for the FBI but who had turned against the agency. They need someone who can help them infiltrate or at least get close to the organization. And Belladonna found that someone in Ana Martin. Her ties to the said organization, it might be run by a close childhood friend, one who may or may not have information about Ana’s younger sister.

What worked for me?

This book really had wonderful parts, little gems sprinkled in places, like when a character perfectly describes the situation with all its nitty-gritty details in terms of tone and emotion. I love the somewhat layered conflicts that Ty had to overcome throughout the book: over how he sees himself, how he sees his life, and how he feels for Ana. Ana is a strong female character. She thinks for herself and does not let people run over her.

The premise of the book is what first drew me to this book, well aside from the fact that it was touted as perfect for fans of Nalini Singh. I love the idea of a specialized unit created to deal with whatever is happening to turned vampires. And in this regard, the author did a good job in keeping that overarching mystery intact but still able to deliver bits and pieces of answers in order to tie up this book in the end. And I want to know more about the world of Belladonna.

What didn’t work for me?

Sadly, this book is nowhere near the level of Nalini Singh’s stories. The world-building was just okay.
