Book Description

March 1, 2005 Harlequin Historical (Book 746)

JAKE TURNER WAS A MAN OF SECRETS

And even a woman he'd saved from a Crow massacre couldn't be privy to his true mission. But Emma Lancing was a woman of surprises, blossoming like a cactus rose during their arduous trek through the Western wilderness. Resourceful, brave and beautiful, she alone made him question his solitary life by proving to be the perfect partner for his adventurous soul!

Emma Lancing's only escape from an abusive, hopeless future lay in trusting a man who made it clear she was not welcome in his world. Even so, she was drawn to Jake Turner's rugged fearlessness and independent spirit, which stirred in her unrealized strengths and undreamt-of passions!

5.0 out of 5 stars HERE IS A GREAT TALE OF A DANGEROUS TRAIL TO CALIFORNIA, August 3, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Turner's Woman (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS, circa 1830.

The adventures of a 23 year old gal and her growth to emotional maturity. Jake Turner couldn't believe how well she could shoot a firearm and travel without complaint.

Jake Turner is U.S.Army, undercover, for the President of the United States. His job is to scout out a passable trail to California, under the Mexican rule, through the Mountains.

Danger, intrigue, rescues, drought, and emotional baggage surround these two people who learn trust and support each other on a very perilous journey.

The Indians meant to kill Emma along with her party. Jake would not be deterred from his mission, to return Emma to her father at Fort Lancing.

Mountain lion attack, good old Scout, Emma's Army issue horse, and Russians were determined to end Jake's life.

Emma was also determined to save his life.

Their bonding and growing respect for each other led to a wonderful romance that blossomed through separation and understanding of love.

How many months would Jake have to search for Emma before he would find her? Was she still alive?

Jake found it more painful to be separated from Emma than his fear of being trapped into marriage.

You can just see the beauty of the country they pass through, feel the heat and near killing thirst and bitter cold of the mountain passes. Journey with them into the unknown country of the Californian Territory, meet up with the very suspicious Commandante, their escape and near capture by the Russians [northern California or would it have been Oregon].

And the medicine that clouded Jake's mind so that he loses a whole month of memory. There is so much more to this tale that you will enjoy.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [with no graphic sex] just enough to tell the tale. [grin][here is my raspberries to those who need it]

This review is from: Turner's Woman (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
I was really looking forward to this book. It's about Jake Turner who is a cartargrapher/scout/spy trying to map out a route across the great divide and desert and rockies to calif for Pres Jackson. On his way he saves a woman from an indian attack and is forced to take her with him on his mission. However she has lots of issues!! Jake, once nearly trapped into marriage, distrusts women (and incessently talks about it) while emma, theproduct of an abusive father, is afraid she's losing her mind (and incessently goes on about that.) I am halfway thru this book and find absolutely no reason to continue. There is nothing likeable about Jake Turner and the only thing I liked about Emma was her horse, scout, who tried to bite Jake in the butt every chance he got. Good horsey!!LOL.........Sorry, JK, this one didn't get the job done........

This historical western romance brings together two great characters, Emma and Jake, and an excellent horse as well (Scout). It's exciting and realistic, and it's fun to go along with them through the Rockies on a dangerous and exciting journey filled with scary situations and some good lovin!
