Book Description

Experience the miracle of a life completely surrendered to the Lord. Herbert Grings was an ordinary man, but he accomplished extraordinary things. Read the compelling, true drama of a man who dedicated his life to spreading God's Word throughout the Belgian Congo of Africa. You'll learn of Grings' hardships and fears--from loneliness and despair to wild animals and shipwrecks--and you'll be moved by his unwavering faith in the Lord. You will discover how God blessed his faithful servant, always putting Grings in the right place at the right time. An old minister once told Grings, "We have to suffer persecution if we serve the Lord Jesus." Those words ring true, tim and again. And yet, despite it all, the missionary remains faithful. There is no turning back!

Editorial Reviews

Review

I have known Jan Van Hee since college days when she was a spiritual leader on campus and active in Mission Prayer Band. As a pastor's wife, she has encouraged churches to increase their vision and involvement in missions especially missionary personnel. This includes ministering to missionaries in her home and visiting them on the field. --Lynn Sparkman

5.0 out of 5 stars A blessing! February 15, 2010
Format:Paperback
This is the biography of Herbert Grings who went to Congo in the early 1900's. Jan Van Hee did a fantastic job of describing the people, blessings, and challenges of missionary work in Africa.

This book will help you understand a missionary's heart and call to serve God. It shows how God is in control of all situations, nothing happens for no reason, and that God truly does take care of His servants!

We are honored and blessed to be working with some of Herbert Grings' family, who are still in Congo today, as well as seeing and participating in the fruits of his labors.

It is not a long book, at 88 pages, so it is perfect for a quicker read or young person.

(I am currently reading it with/to our 7-year-old son and he is LOVING it!)
(My mom read the book, and then ordered several more copies to give away.)

Just a very good story of the life of a career missionary. The amazing part to me was seeing how Herbert Grings went back to Africa even during the depression. He truly lived by faith. He went without organization or financial promises and God supplied his needs. Jan Van Hee told this remarkable story including poisonous snakes, men with spears, elephants, shipwrecks and grass fires. Exciting reading for younger readers and yet I enjoyed it as an adult reader. The story demonstrates God faithfully watching over His servants.
Well written and worth reading!
