Cast by Ferron as "Driver's big sister," Turning into Beautiful is the creation of a master songwriter who has taken care to explain what time does: how remembrance and reflection models the present, shapes our resolve, and moves us toward perfection and grace if we would only face it and claim it as we might do at long last. The effort beseeches easy living with ourselves and our loved ones, here-and-now and beyond. And like returning each night to a cherished sweetie at home, listeners will grow more and more fond of this album with repeated listening. Over and over again you'll look forward to hearing the open-hearted arrangements and compositions of the talented tunesmiths who participated in the recording. Recorded remotely on the same Vancouver-area island location where some of her earliest published songs were penned, Ferron is joined by a creative cast of accomplished Canadian and American musicians, including two who played on the 1980 album, Testimony, twenty-five years before. Turning into Beautiful (and don't we all?) is aptly named, indeed. This recording is well-produced and beautifully mastered, with clear and clean sounds of C&W, contemporary folk, rock-n-roll, blues, and gospel.

Had a chance to meet Ferron at the KIMO Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico...unfortunately did not get to hear her...but my best friend got me an autographed CD which I just heard for the first time moments ago...it's beautiful...wise...a piece of sanity...the soft side of the rock! Like "Life is a Brook" from Stll Riot, if "Goat Path" doesn't wring it out of you, you must be heartless.

The only drawback to hearing this wonderful cd is that Ferron does not make more of them! I truly enjoyed the more upbeat element in this one. Although she absolutely maintains her mood evoking compositions, she has included more positive work this time.
I would also like to have had her voice up front a little more. The arrangements were wonderful but sometimes the mixing stepped on her vocals. Just one request, make more music!
