Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

The authors have gathered "motivational moments" from dozens of practicing library media specialists (LMS) and have interspersed them throughout this practical guide. Each one provides the name and school of the LMS, the targeted grade level (middle grades through high school), instructional goal, information skills taught, and the motivational goal as well as a description of the assignment. Various well-known information-skills models have been synthesized into three broad research stages: beginning (definition, selection, planning), during (exploration, collection, organization), and ending (presentation, evaluation). A series of questions and answers summarizes the main points in each chapter, and each one includes a lengthy list of references. Good, concrete suggestions for developing a set of motivational techniques and tools to instill enthusiasm for research make this a useful purchase for all school librarians.
