In a class all by himself. His versatility and creativity make him the talented Sax player he is today. No traces of Sanborn, Elliot, Marienthal, or Koz.(with great respects to all) And absolutely blows Kenny G away. He has a fresh style all his own, and thats what makes him enjoyable to listen too...

In the world of smooth jazz, there is no shortage of saxophonists. When a musician with talent like Nelson Rangell comes along, you need to sit back and take a listen. Rangell really makes an alto sax sing on this release. Nowhere is this more evident than on the title track, "Turning Night Into Day." Nelson's coloration and sonic shading is especially enchanting on "Romantique."

From track to track, this artist truly shines as he paints a picture in music taking the listener along on a journey from night into day. On "All Hearts, One Heart" Rangell invokes an especially passionate mood. Another tune that's especially unique on this release is "The Journey;" it's here that Nelson shines on the piccolo readily creating an imaginary flight with the birds that sing in the morning. "La Repuesta (The Answer)" finishes this CD with a fanciful tune that has a latin flavor featuring Nelson on the flute.

The listener of this CD will easily appreciate the creativity embodied in each track and in the end, you can't help but long for more of Nelson Rangell.

Nelson Rangel has demonstrated with this album, why he is nowadays one of the top sax players in the genre. Owner of an impressive versatility, he plays the flute too with surprising results. The wide range of rhythms, cadenzas, romantic inspiration and Latin moods, make of this album one your must-have at the moment to choose it. Once you have listened it, you will convince by yourself. But try with a close friend and require it about this album. The answer securely will be the same: gratifying and extraordinary. Go for it without delay.

Another incredible project from Nelson. This CD is packed with a diverse range of inspirational music that you will never get tired of listening to. No two songs are alike. Chuck Loeb produces and plays guitar on most of the tracks. A must have for your collection.

I have had this CD ever since it came out in 1997.The title song is one of the funkiest jazz numbers that I have ever had the pleasure of listening to and is still played in heavy rotation on my stereo to this day.Romantique,Starting Now...you name it,all of the cuts are above average.The follow-up,Always is another of my favorite sax CD'S.Mr. Rangell has to be placed in anyone's top 15 sax players PERIOD.
