5.0 out of 5 stars a refreshing wake-up call to tired and weary ears, June 12, 1999
This review is from: Turning Point (Audio CD)
Combining new sounds, voices, and, for one track, the saxophone of Joshua Redman, the young Goldberg shows that he has, indeed, reached a "turning point" in his career. From the soothing tones of "Turkish Moonrise" to the challenging approach of "Head Trip," from excitement of "Jackson's Actions" to the dedicatory love of "Mom's Tune," the creativity of this musician shows us that he is a force with whom to be reckoned on the jazz scene. His harmonies with bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland support the delicate, yet elaborate, melodies and solos that spring from Goldberg's tunes. Most of the pieces are Goldberg's originals which suggests that his creativity is not relegated to the improvisational moment alone. I look forward to the many future works of this budding new musician.
