2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a Turning Point February 28, 2008

Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
I was really looking forward to this game. I had read the reviews and thought the premise was awesome, then I played it.

Well, the premise of the game is still good. Nazi's attack America after defeating England in WW2. The graphics look like they still believe it is the 1990's and the PS2 is new. I saw the video trailer, which IS a good representation of the game, and thought that that must be the "work in progress". I was wrong. There is nothing that makes me think that this game is even pushing the envelope of what the PS3 is capable of. The weapons are not as realistic looking as COD4 and the enemies look like they fell out of Wolfenstein.

I have yet to finish the game...not sure if it will keep me interested enough. With a whopping 8 person multiplayer (This is a joke), I might have to go back to COD4.

My biggest regret with this game is convincing my friend to buy it too.

If you like FPS's then stick to COD.

2.0 out of 5 stars Defnitely a Let Down March 5, 2008
Platform for Display:PlayStation 3|Edition:Standard
Fun: 2.0 out of 5 stars
This game was definitely a let down. I have yet to finish it, and I'm up in the air about if I want to invest the time in doing so.

The premise is great and honestly is what got me to buy this game in the first place, but that isn't able to out weigh everything else that is bad about the game.

The graphics are not in keeping with the PS3. The characters look like they were rendered for the PS2. Every enemy death is the same whether you shoot them in the leg or the head (good luck getting that aimed in). The explosions are just inserted animations with no area effects. At one point I shot an exploding barrel and after the explosion animation the other barrell right next to the original one was still there. The frame rate gets jumpy every once in awhile and the game stops completely to load a new area.

When you have shooterss like Resistance or Call of Duty 4, you can't get these things wrong. In fact if you want a shooter get either one of these especially COD4. Look for this game to soon fill the shelves of your favorite used video game store.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't buy it March 19, 2008

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
I rented this game from Blockbuster, because I thought the premise of the game sounded fantastic, but the preview video looked a little rough. Well the game turned out to be a little rough as well. PS2 style graphics, the bad guys will just charge you while you shoot them down. the list goes on and on... I played it for two days and took it back early. I am giving this 2 stars overall only because the "what if" history story is cool.

The online game play was pitiful as well.

Too bad because I think they creators had a great idea, just bad follow through.

2.0 out of 5 stars Wait for the 19.99 Bin. March 8, 2008
By Chums

Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
Upon starting Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, you can see right off the bat that this game is lacking in several categories. The graphics are flat out terrible. I feel like I'm playing a PS2 game at some points, though the background during game play are not all bad. As far as scenery goes, there were some moments that were cool (i.e. Zeppelin docked to the Tower Bridge in London) but everything else was fairly normal. This game also has a serious problem with loading, and believe me you'll know what I mean when you see it. You'll be walking and the game will stutter or stop for 2 or 3 seconds and then you'll keep going. It's flat out annoying.

Game play is not atrocious, but 2 things that did bother me.
1) Your trigger is R2 and to aim is L2, so if you are at all used to playing pretty much any other shooting genre of game, it's gonna take some getting used to. And you will die a lot from this, Because R1 (where the trigger should be) is your GRENADES, which don't go very far no matter how much you want them too.

2) When you stand in front of most things to activate them (e.g. an elevator button, a lever) You have to move around to find EXACTLY the right spot. There was more than on occasion when I activated a switch and I was standing OUTSIDE the elevator.

I would certainly rent the game for the sheer storyline (which I did) before you do anything. I also liked the cool Environmental dependent hand to hand situations you can have with the Nazi's (throwing them off a bridge, crushing them under trucks, etc.) Just complete the game on "easy," return it, and go buy Call of Duty 4.

1.0 out of 5 stars Leave this one for the history books January 11, 2010

Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
What if the Nazis had won world war two? For that matter, what if, having conquered all of Europe, Hitler's armies invaded the United States? Imagine that you're a construction worker on a building when suddenly, missiles slam into the girders around you. Looking up, you see the impossible...a fleet of Nazi zeppelins descending upon your city, accompanied by a fleet of warships, and backed up with hundreds upon hundreds of jets and fighters sweeping among the skyscrapers, blasting everything in sight.

It's a terrific premise for a video game, but unfortunately, that's all "Turning Point" has going for it.

"Turning Point" is your standard first person shooter. You run around shooting those dastardly Nazis, gathering and swapping weapons as needed, and interacting with the environment at various moments to activate bridges, man machine gun turrets, and plant bombs. All pretty standard affairs with nothing too extraordinary, save for being able to occasionally grapple an enemy in hand to hand combat, whereupon you can either take them hostage as a human shield, or kill them easily. While most of those kills are variations of knocking them out with your fists, bashing them with weapons, etc. a few are occasionally quite humorous, such as chucking a paratrooper off a skyscraper, tossing a thug into a furnace and locking the doors shut (Irony!), or drowning one unfortunate soldier in a toilet bowl.

However, aside from its instant kills and the fantastic premise, "Turning Point" doesn't really work, for the simple fact that it feels unfinished. With such a Hollywood caliber premise, the story in "Turning Point" is practically non-existent, outside of a handful of cut scenes. Characters come and go at random, and are all equally forgettable.
