About the Author

MICHAEL WILLIAMS is dean of Humanities and Social Sciences and professor of History at Dallas Baptist University. He holds the M.Div. and Ph.D. (Church History) from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the author of I. T. Tichenor and the Creation of a Baptist New South (University of Alabama Press), To God Be the Glory: The Centennial History of Dallas Baptist University, 1898-1998, and Victory through Faith: A History of the Rosen Heights Baptist Church. Dr. Williams is also the secretary for the Fellowship of Baptist Historians. WALTER B. SHURDEN is former chair of the department of Christianity, Callaway Professor of Christianity, and executive director of the Center for Baptist Studies. He has also served as dean of the School of Theology and professor of Church History at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, professor of religion at Carson-Newman College, and pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ruston, Louisiana. Since his retirement from Mercer in 2007, he has been designated as minister at large for Mercer University. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I was very pleased with this volume. It covers numerous key events which show the transformation of Baptists as a whole and the Southern Baptist Convention in particular. The diversity of contributors was also important in my purchase and appreciation of this book.
