Grade 10 Up-A pithy and comprehensive book. Five chapters on the rise, royalty and religion, accomplishments, decline, and legacy of this ancient civilization are accompanied by a 14-page history of Egypt (with 2 maps), 23 reprints of primary-source documents, and reflective discussion questions. Several related asides are embedded in the chapters and six small illustrations add decoration and variety. The writing is clear and direct but the vocabulary is difficult. Overall, this is a good overview of ancient Egyptian culture, history, and events in a tight package.
