A solid final N64 entry,

Turok 3 was the last of the series to be released on N64, and arrived as the system was fading out. It wasn't ground-breaking like the original, and didn't have the massive hype backing it like Seeds of Evil. However, it was still a good shooter that did justice to one of the N64's exclusive franchises.
I'm not sure how the story got to this point, but there's no dinosaurs now, and the series has traded tropical jungles for the urban jungle. Level design is solid with good, artistic detail. Enemies are also very distinctive with slick animations. Lots of ambient music and speech during the cutscenes, though I was a bit disappointed with the gun noises, which sound a little soft. One thing thats definitely different in terms of gameplay is the numerous checkpoints now, which break up massive levels into nice, digestable chunks. Perfect for someone who wants to play for a bit but doesn't have a 3-hour chunk of time to drop in one sitting. The levels are more linear, but it feels like you're actually making progress. Framerate dips every so often, but is much better than Seeds of Evil. And there's a fairly decent multiplayer mode in the package to play with. The gameplay isn't as deep as something like GoldenEye, but it's not the mindless frag-fest of Quake either. If you're still looking for some N64 shooters to play with, Turok 3 is worth checking out.

Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion is the last game in the series on the N64. While the series takes on a more Urban futuristic feel this time around, with not one but two players to choose from, it's a great game to finish out the Turok legacy with. In this game, Oblivion has bridged the Lost World and ours intending to eliminate the Turok lifeline and dominate the universe. And with Oblivion's presence known, city leaders have cordoned off streets and blanketed the region with martial law. It's up to you as Danielle or Joseph(Turok 2 Joshua Fireseed's Siblings) to stop Oblivion. New additions to the game are a save anywhere feature, 40 new enemies that span over 5 worlds, and 40-plus multiplayer maps. Not only that but, visually, this is the best-looking game in the series. Take a look at the cutscenes and see how characters show emotion throughout the game(which was highly unheard of at the time,at least to this extent).
During the days of the N64, Iguana was a force to be reckoned with on the N64. Consistently putting out worthy games in any N64 owners collection. It's an awesome game and one I highly recommend to all. In fact, I recommend them all. Turok was the absolute best on the N64.

What the heck happend?,

Firstly, I just have to say I loved Turok and Turok 2. Turok 3 however was a big disappointment. The graphics and sound were pretty good overall I guess, but the playability was non-existent. The best part of the game was inside of the first 10 minutes. I dont know what happend here, but I was majorly mad at wasting my hard earned cash. Buy this game if you need an expensive coaster.

What happened to the Dinosaur Hunter??,

I bought his game because I loved the original so much. The problem is that this isn't really a sequal, as the original premise of a dinosaur hunter has been scrapped. Too bad too because that's what made the game stand out from all the other shoot-em-ups. But at least they've given the game an excellent design that has no problems standing alongside others in this genre. Graphics are crisp and clean but kept dark to heighten the scare factor. In other words, instead of fog like in the first Turok, things are kept in shadow here. I've noticed some stuttering in the cut scens, but never durring the game itself. By the way, the cut scenes are done very very well, so much so that the characters lips seem to be in sync with the dialogue! Note that there is definitely less blood and gore in this game than Turok 2. I'm not complaining tough. I don't see the need for so much gore. But don't get me wrong, the M rating is deserved as you can decapitate enemies and blood does fly when you shoot an enemy. Also the overall feel of the game is very dark/creepy. This a good game to play on a dark night to get really spooked. A great feature is that you have a choice of playing as one of two characters at the beginning which that adds a bit of replay value to the title. You'll be able to use different weapons and access different areas depending on which character you choose. One real problem I have with the game is that the on-screen gun site is so small and darkly colored that I have a really hard time seeing where it is in the heat of battle. Using the auto target system doesn't seem to do much at all as even when there is only one enemy coming towards me the site won't target it. What's up with that? This little flaw makes the game much harder than it should be and causes A LOT of frustration. Thankfully there are many places to save game progress. So my overall feeling is that this is a very solid game but one that lacks any real orginality or invention. I really miss the feeling and story of the original Turok and would much rather see future sequals follow in it's footsteps. Hunting dionsaurs is too fun an idea to pass on so quickly. Killing monsters from another dimension has been done enough. Get this game if you're an avid fan of first person shooters, but not if you're a fan of the original Turok.

I was immediately impressed with Turok 3's graphics. It starts in a war torn city scape. It's fun to run around and hide behind rubble, shoot at snipers etc. You go through a few different envionments including the "lost jungle" of the original. This part reminded me of a cool feature that the recent games have lost. It was originally Turok:DINOSAUR HUNTER! In seeds of evil it was dino-people, but now it's just people. There are some monster guys, even a couple of raptors in the lost jungle area, but nothing like the first one. The levels are fun and about the right length. I agree with a previous reviewer that seeds of evil's levels were just too long. I constantly needed to consult the map so I wouldn't run in circles. Even with the map it took hours to finish a level. That's another thing, it took me a week or so to finish Seeds of Evil (actually I gave up when it came time to go through all the levels again to get those final keys). I beat Turok 3 in 2 days. I was kind of surprised how easy it was to beat the bosses. Run circles around them while firing and you can't lose. All in all it was a very enjoyable game...but I definately would have this game listed on ebay right now if I were to have bought it.

As sequels go, this may be the worst of all time......the Godfather III of video games. What happened to the strategy, deep levels, and intense action from "Seeds of Evil"? Turok 3 is a HUGE letdown! The levels are too short, the story line, characters and weapons are unimpressive. Shouldn't game sequels evolve and be better than the ones that came before? Well, this one simply isn't. A future Turok release is hinted at, but I wouldn't expect anything spectacular based on this latest effort from Acclaim.

this is a realy fun game, although the ai humans seem a little funny like when you walk into a room they stand there for 10/12 seconds then shoot then another 10/12 seconds pass and they shoot again,i also was a little dissapointed with the "oblivion"boss it looks a little weird and the multi-player mode dosent include my favorite character the campanigher.other then that this is a great game.i recommend it for any turok fan!.

Good, but strayed from the dino hunt...,

This review is from: Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion (Video Game)
This is a great first person shooter, one of the best I've ever played. The upgradable weapons are a treat, but if Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is the only shooter you like, don't get it. The first one was great because you got to hunt dinosaurs(duh, dinosaur hunter), the second one, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is 50%goldeneye-like game, 50% Turok 1,it basically could have been left out of the series, as it shows the rising of the ultimate evil(Oblivion in Shadows of Oblivion). The 3rd one is mostly a goldeneye type game. It strayed from the Dinosaur Hunter theme. This is still a good game, but if you're a hardcore Turok: Dinosaur Hunter fan, this game isn't for you. Rent before you buy... although I didn't. It's great.

Okay, but not much replay value.,

Somewhere, the magic got lost in the making of this sequel. Like most Acclaim products, this software is glitchy and full of bugs. That aside, the levels are fewer and shorter, the game completes much faster (too fast, compared to earlier versions), and the weapons seem fewer than before. Even the multiplayer levels are tiny. Was Acclaim running short on memory for this cart?On the positive side, the addition of two seperate characters with unique weapons and abilities is a plus. The graphics are good (with the expansion pak), and the objectives are not so nitpicky ... as they were in Turok 2. Like most games of this type, the playline is linear and secrets are minimal, which I find hindering and boring, personally. Overall, I think your best bet is to rent this game a few times until you win and then return it. I hardly think that ... justifies a game that will be played only a few times and then retired to the back of the shelf to collect dust. Turok 1 had the magic, Turok 2 a little less, but this one has little innovation or improvement that I can see.

I purchased Turok 3 in hopes of being equally stunned by the graphics that I saw in Turok 2. I'm sorry to say I was let down-big time. Turok 3 does not even come close to the fantastic graphics that you seen in #2. It seems slower and has jerky movements. I would encourage people not to purchase it. The creators or turok 3 should be ashamed of the quality of this game.
