5.0 out of 5 stars Turok Dinosaur Hunter....... January 26, 2006
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Little do people know that, while Quake was the first fully 3-D First-Person Shooter for the PC, the first one for the console was Turok Dinosaur Hunter. Like Quake, it was a game that was totally immersive, in which you felt like you were part of the action going on. You could look up or down, jump, and other things that you just couldn't do in FPS at the time. While Turok might not have turned heads quite as much as Quake did, for Nintendo 64 owners- this game deserved ever bit of the credit it deserved. I remember playing this game when it first came out and being totally in awe of the graphics and how deep this game was. It was like being on a huge jungle safari but, instead of lions and tigers, you had dinosaurs and other enemies you faced. Keep in mind, this is before Goldeneye, Perfect Dark or the Quake series itself came out on the N64. I really enjoyed the game myself and, eventually, bought it as well as the other three Turok games that followed to add to my collection. As I play so many games(course if you've seen my long list of reviews you'd know that), from time to time I get out my old systems and play all my old favorites to see how they stack up to games today. If I find that I didn't write a review on them at that time, I write one and give my feelings on it. Which is why I'm writing one on this game.

For it's time, Turok Dinosaur Hunter was one of the better games released for the N64 and is definitely one FPS that every N64 owner should have in their collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Listen To The Guy From Reno May 2, 2000
By A Customer
Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Don't listen to the Reno-Reviewer. This game is fun. There are assorted weapons, even a nuke. You have to fight off dinosaurs, regular humans who do look like they have been on steroids, and giant weird monkey-like dudes. There is also the Tek bow, which shoots nuclear-tipped arrows. If that goes in an enemy, they usually fly sky-high. This game is fun. And if you like destroying dinosaurs, this game is for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but......... May 11, 2000

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
When I first got my N64, I got this game, along with Star Fox (Which is an amazing game I might add) and Mario Cart. At first, I hated it. The levels were insane to me. Now, I have got to be a better gamer, and I like this game. I still think it's hard, and if you're a novice gamer, I can't recommend this game. If you're looking for a nice challenge, try out this game. By the way, the graphics, especially the death scenes, are amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Landmark Acclaim Game - Unreal Visual Simulation March 22, 2005
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
In 1997 Acclaim brought the very first Arcade quality first person shooter to the N64 with Turok, a primordial theme that defined future genres that would have to actually animate the end level bosses making them more realistic, trying to match what Speilberg did four years earlier, and come very close, meaning Turok was probably some of the best animation ever seen in a 1st person shooter. The story, the levels, the enemy AI, all of this was very impressive for its time and ACCLAIM have stayed ball players because of it. The graphics had people in AWE. This was the end of 1996 start of 1997. I had never played or seen anything like this before. The N64 was an awesome engine. ACCLAIM delivered a stunning entry game. Never forget it. WOW.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellence in the making November 30, 1999

Durability: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Educational: 5.0 out of 5 stars    Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a great game for any who enjoy sitting down and getting involed in an interactive futuristic adventure that blends dinosaurs, mechanical baddies, puzzle solving skill, and of coarse a arsenal of high-tech weaponry to grease them all. It's so easy to get into it's unbelievable. The music and sound pulls you right into it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Game, but... July 2, 2001
By Mark
"Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" is one of the best games out there if your the type of person who likes GoldenEye 007. There are many types of of weapons (such as a pistol, knife, rocket launcher, grenade launcher, rifle, lazer, and yes a "nuclear bomb" launcher. To go along with the weaponry, this game has the best graphics (and details -- ex. dinosaurs and landscape) and "human movement" I have ever seen. Unlike GoldenEye, there is a LOT more blood in this game. You can even make it green! The levels in this game, however, are so massive they get very complex to follow . It is a VERY challenging game.

5.0 out of 5 stars TUROK - DINOSAUR HUNTER October 25, 2002
I love this game. It's raw, violent, gory, and just plain awesome! I have played this game numerous times and still can't get enough of it. It has some neat levels, cool weapons, and a lot of great codes. This is one of my favorite shooting games ever! I like it, and you probably will too. I wish they'd create this game on the X-box. That would be even better! This game allows you to use mini guns, shotguns, plasma rifles, bow & arrows, and other cool guns & weapons.

4.0 out of 5 stars WARNING, Some nostalgia bias ahead February 4, 2014

This was the first FPS game I ever played. Deciding to try it out again I decided to order it and played through it.

First question I thought to myself was does it still hold up pretty well? Well yes it does actually. The game is obviously dated visual wise since its more than a decade old now. It doesn't bother me though given that it's from the generation that I started gaming from. Though I was pretty surprised at how good it looks for an old school FPS. The dinosaurs look and move around beautifully. The humanoid enemies you fight actually have faces (which was a pretty big deal back then) and you can see them shoulder their weapons and fire back at you. While the levels are pretty linear they look good and you aren't given illusions of "freedom" like in other games. Everything you see you can pretty much get to, nothing is slapped on to make it look pretty.

The game-play is pretty straightforward. Go from point A to point B while collecting some keys to unlock the next level. You collect a 100 tokens to earn lives and pick up med kits to restore health lost from battling enemies. Every now and then you come across platform challenges for extra tokens or to get a new weapon to get a better edge. Surprisingly these platform bits weren't as difficult as I'd thought. I was pretty intimidated by the three limb N-64 controller when I looked at it for the first time in years, wondering how I even managed. It actually controls alright, though it does feel somewhat awkward at times.

If there is something that Turok has that newer FPS games don't have is novelty. It reeks old school FPS given that you fight dinosaurs and use large bulky Sci-Fi weapons that turn enemies to mulch. You battle bosses like a large insect that spits acid and T-Rex. I kind of miss this.
