Im gonna have to disagree with the previous reviews. I loved this game in its entirety. Considering how shallow the original one was and I still loved that one this was huge. Amazing graphics and fun gameplay. I dont think lack of blood is a reason to dislike a game, considering the blood in the dinos is plentiful. If you enjoyed the original at all this one will be amazing. A lot more options and much better dinosaur fighting action.

I am so tired of killing zombies! This is a great change to the normal shooter. Graphics are amazing and the surround sound is amazing. It does a great job of dumping you in the jungle and making you feel like you're fighting for your life. Who doesn't like dinosaurs?

I played the demo for this game when it came out, and I liked it so I decided to buy the full game. In my opinion, Propaganda Games has done an excellent job re-imagining Turok for next-gen consoles, even if it is a little rough around the edges. Namely, the save system is a bit frustrating, and the shooting mechanics are a bit jumpy do to excessive screen shaking (if you turn down the sensetivity a notch or two though, the aiming is much better). Also, a minor complaint I had is that it should have been gorier. They don't shy away from the splatter when you kill Dinosaurs, but unfortunately, killing enemy soldiers is practically G-rated (I'm guessing it's because Disney isn't quite ready to deal with Jack Thompson yet). I suggest you ignore the haters and try the game for yourself before you pass judgment. It's a decent shooter and a solid return for the Turok franchise. It's not as good as Call of Duty, but guess what? The original Turok wasn't as good as Goldeneye, but that didn't stop people from enjoying it. You'll either like this game or you won't, so I suggest you try it for yourself.
Hopefully, Propaganda makes a good sequel to this game. They're a new developer, but I see a lot of potential in them. They just need to fix the shooting mechanics and save feature, and add the extra coat of visual polish that this game could have used (which is not to say it doesn't have good graphics, because for the most part it does) and they'll have a really good game on their hands.

Im a huge Turok fan. I was 11 when I saw the first commercial for the original Turok and my mouth was to the floor. Needless to say Turok was something I grew up playing. I even played the Gameboy versions and loved them.Ive seen great game, Turok and Turok 2, Ive seen ok, Turok 3, and Ive also seen horrible..Rage Wars.So where does this new Turok rank? Unfortuantly at horrible. I wanted to love this game but Ive never been so dissapointed, (Rage Wars looked like it was gunna suck from the get go, this one had potential.) Where do I start? Well to me Turoks strongest aspect was its story. I loved the lost land and the light burden and how the title of Turok was something passed down generations. WHat do we get here? A story that starts out promising and then goes in the trash. Like other reviewers said it disseapears. I was ok with the fact that they reimagined the whole thing but honestly this isnt worth it. The original story was leagues above this one. Graphics? Decent at best. EVerything looks like it needed more polish. Weapons, the thing that stood out the most in turok games, absolutly cannot hold a candle to the originals. Now you have a knife, bow, machine gun, a handgun that shoots energy grenades, pulse rifle, a weak sniper rifle, and a shotgun. Thats it!! Wheres the rocket launchers, cerebral bores, or any of the other cool weapons from the series? Oh and the shotguns lame, in turok 2 the shotgun would blow things in half and decapitate raptors. In the new game you just see blood get on the dinos and they die, thats it. Gameplay?? FLAWED. I like a challenge but its just not fair when a soldiers on a turret and they have a perfect aim at you, Trial and error is the way here and you WILL die alot. Worst part is the load times are long and theres plenty of situations when You'll die the first few seconds the mission starts then what? ANother load screen. And boss battle?? Well the T-Rex is it. and thats not even fun. Run around blasting in circles. That couldve been an epic battle that falls short. Turoks main nemesis Kain???? Its nothing mroe than an interactive cutscene. LAME!!!!!!!!!!!! Overall its not a good game, Mediocre at best. Trust me its not worth the 60$ to play. And Im a HUGE TUROK FAN. Im dissapointed and I hope a game developer can realize the potential this series has and take it to the next level.

Let me start off by saying I just took a shot in the dark on this one. I had never played the demo, and when I tried to find it on PSN a month ago it wasn't there. My curiosity didn't subside so I just went ahead and bought it. It was definitely worth it!The first away from Acclaim, Turok has undergone a reboot of the story. This game unveils Turok's history with Wolfpack as he is now a member of Whiskey Company hunting down his former mentor to bring in for crimes. There is quite a large amount of cutscenes which unfolds this story the further through the game you get. While it is ultimately a forgettable plot, it held my attention to the end. The use of the Unreal Engine is nice. The dinosaurs look great. Reflections are used and are very prevalent with waterfalls, water in general, and the knife/edge. Despite some negative reviews, I feel the textures are well done. Keep in mind this is a 2008 release. There are some rendering issues. Several times the game seemed to get ahead of itself and I would be watching a cutscene only to have the characters and room rendered about 3 seconds into it. There are also some choppy load points that can be frustrating when they happen unexpectedly and you are left making a move you'd rather not. There was also one major clipping issue during the second to last boss fight. Right before the battle I fell through the ground and all the way to sheer blackness. I had to restart at the last checkpoint, which fortunately was right before the battle so it didn't really matter much. This only happened once so all is forgiven. My main issue with this game is the sheer difficulty. I honestly believe this is the most difficult game I have ever played. There are two choices when you start a new game, Normal and Hard. Well Normal feels like most games' Hard/Insane. Be prepared to die 25-50 times - no joke. What's rough about that is the checkpoints are quite distant from each other making you replay a large chunk of game to get back to where you originally died. The load time to get back in action is also long. It's a double edged sword as I have never been so frustrated during gameplay but also never felt such a sense of accomplishment once finishing. Just be warned. Once you beat the game once you unlock Inhuman mode. I can safely say I will not even attempt this. I think it's unfortunate this game didn't do better than it did. It received good reviews, yet the unannounced sequel is surrounded by doubt that it will ever be made. If there ever is a Turok 2 I will definitely pick it up.

Not nearly enough dinos!,

I have been a massive Turok fan ever since the first game came out on the N64 back in 1997. The first 2 games are in my top 5 list of the greatest First Person Shooters ever. And as the 3 star rating suggests this is a good game but as a Turok game it fails and fails miserably.
Yes this game has raptors and a T-Rex, but that's really all the dinos this game has to offer. Where are the Pur-linn and Leapers? It is ESSENTIAL for a Turok game to have these enemies! And I also would have liked to see The Endtrails and Mantids from Turok 2 make an appearance. The weapons are nothing worthy of the Turok name either. We have all the cliches: Shotgun, Automatic Rifle, Sniper Rifle, and Rocket Launcher ect. No one thought of including the legendary Cerebral Bore? Not to mention the QUAD rocket launcher, Shredder, Fusion Cannon all those cool over the top weapons that Turok is famous for. I don't think I'm asking for too much. I did expect this came to follow some modern FPS trends like carrying a limited amount of weapons, regenerating health and those other things that Halo did so now EVERY FPS for some reason must also do. But ranting aside this is still a good game that has some exciting moments and beautiful graphics. And there were some entertaining boss battles. I would definitely rather play this than the snooze-fest that is the COD: Modern Warfare 2 single player campaign and it has more variety to make it better than Killzone 2. After Turok 2, Turok just hasn't been Turok and this game does nothing to change that.

In general the game is entertaining, its fun and a nice breath of fresh air from the countless militery fps games in the market. The "turok" series has alot of history back on the N64, turok, turok 2,turok 3, excluding turok:evolution they were known for exotic ambient levels,a native american protagonist and most importanly crazy over the top weapons. This entry is a reboot or reimagining of the "turok" license so the only thing this game has in common with the previous game is the main character is native american which of course is now a staple of the series.
The story in the game is pretty good it gets you interested but not hooked, The story starts off you trying to bring in your old mentor, but the later in the game it turns into a survivel mission and then agian trying to bring in your mentor. The story felt rushed and the antogonist really wasn't that menacing. Character development would of helped in this department. Weapons in this game are ok they're nothing to go giddy about the only few guns that are fun is the knife, bow and the sticky bomb gun every other weapon feel strangley weak. It could of used more memorable weapons, and the aiming can be a little off its way to jumpy even when you burst fire. The graphics in this game are great the dinosaurs are the stars of this game and they look superb and sound just as real and killing them is satifying. The levels are somewhat linear but the background has enough depth that you can look out in the horizen and get that atmosphere where your in a prehistoric world. But the levels are not that open where if you stay long enough in one area a bunch of dinosours will show up, so in the end it feels scripted when dinosaurs happen to pop out of a bush or a come from behind. The difficulty in this game doesn't feel quite right, sometimes you feel like the ultimate dinosaur hunter other times you'll get put down by a single soldier or a pack of dinos. It doesn't help either that it takes a little to long to regain health. The stealth in this game is a mixed bag sometimes you'll take out a enemy with his friends looking the other way and not noticing but sometimes you'll do the same thing but this time you get a hail of bullets coming your way. The last problem is the checkpoints they're to far placed and will fustrate the most, like say doing an entire section thats 15 to 20 minutes long only to get ambushed by enemy who happens to flank and your dead, well thats 20 minutes wasted. Turok is a good game, its fun somewhat original and has lot of potential but it could of used some changes in balancing the games difficulty.

This game was a good effort, but it wasn't enough to turn things around for the Turok series. The first three on the Nintendo 64 (Turok, Turok 2, and Turok Rage Wars) had the absolute greatest settings. This game is linear, but feels average by today's market standards.

I enjoyed the first Turok games for N64, and the last one for the PS2 wasn't too bad either. I feel like for PS3 and its amazing graphics, this might be a home run. It is more like a ground rule double. I bought this game about 2 months ago, played it the first night I had it with a bit of disappointment. The dialogue, story line is lame for the most part. I recently started playing it again to give it another chance, and while it is enjoyable to play at times, I can't help but say the previous Turoks were better. For $20 I would say it is a worthwhile purchase, but don't spend too much money on this game. Hopefully they will create a better Turok for the next round.

I've played all the Turok games (since the original for N64) and I have to say that this one was my favorite. I thought that the scenery was excellent, as well as subtle sound of the jungle.
The weapons were great. I found my favorites (double-weilding the SMG and shotgun) and rarely strayed if I could help it, but my favorite weapon was the knife. The quick-kills were really designed well and, if needed, I would rely on them instead of running in guns (or bow) blazing. Some might argue that the game was fairly short, but I think it was about the right length. There's really only so many dinosaurs you can kill (who am I kidding). Either way, the enemies were decent and mildly challenging. Also, the T-Rex fights were pretty cool once you got the hang of them. However, I was almost a midnight snack to the final T-Rex numerous times. Go ahead and pick this game up, it's cheaper now (only $30 new). It's pretty entertaining. |
