Product Description

Despite its misleading moniker, Turok: Rage Wars for the Game Boy Color has very little to do, as far as gameplay goes, with the N64 title of the same name. The GB version is, in actuality, a rather surprising 2D side-scrolling action title, very reminiscent of the 8-bitters of yore. You play as Turok, champion dinosaur hunter, and you trek through five deadly worlds packed to the brim with bipedal lizards, man-eating plants, and lethal death traps, among other hazards. There is quite a nice mix, as far as the makeup of the levels go: In some, you're given the freedom to roam back and forth and all along the fore and background, slicing up or shooting enemies, leaping over obstacles, and grabbing power-ups. Others levels take more advantage of the game's semi-top-down perspective, as they scroll along, forcing you to move at their pace; if you're unfortunate enough to be caught behind a wall or similar element, you'll suffer a rather crushing demise. Regardless of the levels' design, their primary objectives remain constant: Eliminate everything that moves, and survive. Enemies are gingerly scattered throughout each level, and some will straight-up bum-rush you, while others will attempt to snipe you from afar. Luckily, you have access to a miniaturized version of Turok's legendary arsenal, including his slick bow, trusty firearms, and (arguably the game's most versatile weapon) his mean bowie knife. Most weapons can be upgraded, and there are special "mix kits" scattered throughout the game that let you morph different arms together to produce some truly sick hybrids. Graphically, Turok: Rage Wars looks great. Turok himself is fluidly animated and nicely detailed, considering the hardware. The levels look suitably lush and alive, though it seems as though Acclaim neglected to infuse some of the enemy characters with sufficient life; they often look lame and stiff, in comparison with the game's other elements. Overall, though, the game has a nice, vibrant feel to it, which is very pleasantly surprising. If you're looking for a high-quality action game, you can't go wrong with this one. The slick visual feel coupled with the tried-and-true gameplay make for a great game to help the in-flight hours melt away.--Miguel Lopez--Copyright © 1998 GameSpot Inc. All rights reserved. 4.0 out of 5 stars Turok 3 Rage Wars for Game Boy Color January 5, 2000

This Game is great for game boy color. Although not like Turok for N64. In this Game you acquire many cool items like the mix kit which alows you to mix weapons. The game is in vivid color.I have to admit the bladelauncher is really cool. The only downside is that you might get annoyed by the monsters after a while. All in all if you enjoy Game Boy shooters and don't know what to buy this game is perfect for you.

I recently purchased this game a week ago. I must have played that game 4 hours before I needed a rest, the game is very entertaining. The graphics were very impressive, especially on the GBC.The point of the game is kinda weird, but that doesnt affect the gameplay. It is true that there are only 4 levels in the game, that may sound pretty short but trust me,its not. Each level is split up into 4 or 5 different parts(when i say parts,I mean backround setting changes, baddies and such.Sometimes you will find yourself trying to beat one of the parts really fast because of the scrolling screen. One of my favourite things about the game is the variety of weapons u can get,and whats even better is the weapon combining feature, where u can take two weapons u have and combine them 2 make a more powerful one. Over all,Turok:Rage Wars is an A+ game. The -1 star is because once you beat the game a few times it will get boring, but that will take a while anyways.GREAT GAME!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a gameboy version November 16, 2008

I purchased this game when I found out that Turok was on gameboy. It's not as good as the N64 version, but it's a pretty good substitute. If you like Turok games and gameboy games, I recommend that you buy this, I'm sure that you will enjoy it.
