Just finished a few rounds of CoD: Ghosts and the simulated 5.1 surround sound has been great! The info online has been a bit scarce, so I'll post a few answers to things I had questions on before purchasing:

1. There are conflicting articles online as to whether this is an on-the-ear or over-the-ear headset - it is over-the-ear.

2. All XB1 headsets that plug into the controller are stereo. The 5.1 is pre-processed by the XB1 and sent wirelessly in stereo.

3. if all you care about is game sound, but don't need voice chat, just get the $25 adapter, then you can use any headset you already own (including cheapo earbuds if that's your thing)

4. it is wireless... sorta. The headphones connect to an included adapter that plugs into the controller, which is wireless. - so... psuedo wireless.

5. Near as I can tell, the big differences between the XO4 ($99) and the XO7($159) is memory foam padding, swappable cosmetic speakerplates and pleather ear cuffs, but the audio tech appears to be the same. Me being a bit on the cheap side, decided that the extra padding and cosmetics weren't worth an extra $60.

My only real complaint (hence 4 stars not 5) is that the headset overall isn't very comfortable for gaming sessions lasting more than a few hours, but that may just be a case of needing time to break in.

One tidbit of note: This headset, along with any other headset for the Xbox One, the firmware for the controller needs to be updated before the adapter will work. Its simple enough to go through, but good to know ahead of time. - If you don't have the Play and Charge Kit, don't worry, the XO4 comes with a micro-usb cable that you can use to perform the update.

UPDATE: So I played most of the night on Battlefield and COD. I put in about a good 5 hours into that session and loved what I herd from these. The sounds were loud and in your face, err well ears I guess. They were consistently crisp and loud, also threw in Forza some more and loved the emphasis on the V12s roaring and the tires moving screeching from left ear cup to the right. For you headset buffs out there I for got to mention that these are STEREO, so no surround sound sadly or any special EQ boosters or buttons or anyhting of that sort, with that said In my honest opinion Im okay with that. I know having different EQ modes is nice but just being able to have a gaming headset for chat on my XBONE thats all I can ask for. The controller can't output true 5.1 or 7.1 to begin with itll be simulated so in all honesty the stereo is great here. The only complaint I would have to say is that after that session I did feel those cans on me, not to worry they're comfortable but you notice them after awhile it is most likley due to the fact that since the console has come out that I've just been using the standard mic so it may take some getting used to. All in all I stand behind my review and love these things a lot, again for the first of many headsets (lets face it there will be more) I think they were great for what you pay for out of the box, any question anyone has I'll be happy to answer, I will add a video review in the coming days. Thanks guys! Hope you enjoyed this review!

So yesterday I picked up the 4 shots by Polk and wrote an in depth review, though I liked them after spending a night with them I found that the voice chat was very sub par, Polk did come out and issue that they were going to fix the headset with an update but they did say that wouldn't be for another two weeks.

I already owned a set of Tritton 720s, but the thought of eliminating all of the wires, power cables and, decoder were enough to motivate me to check out the TB options. I bought both the X04s and the X07s. The Xbox One is set up in a way that will allow you to listen to your surround sound via HDMI, legacy headset via optical, and Xbox One headset via controller at the same time. This was very convenient for comparison purposes.

Unpacking. The X07 packaging and accessories are superior to that of the X04. You definitely understand that the X07 is meant to be the higher grade version of the two. The only tangible difference between the contents of either product is the type of cable/connector used to switch between the “game” cable to the “accessories” cable. The X04 use what seems at first glance to be a multi-pin quick disconnect, similar to Apple power cables. This is not the case, as it takes quite a bit of effort to disconnect the cable once it is connected. It does give me hope that there is more discrete sound processing going on in the X07s than the X04s, which seem to have left, right, and mic wires. The X04 is more conventional. Both versions include the necessary cables to connect to the Xbox controller or to a music device. What is most noticeable is the lack of power cables of any kind. Compared to the 720s, it is amazing that only a single cable is required.

Form and fit. The X07s feel more substantial. There is a slightly more solid feel to the X07s. This also means the X07s weigh more. The X07 ear cups are also substantially larger than the X04s. Both sets are comfortable. Each has its tradeoffs. Where the X07s have more padding, the X04s are lighter. I have pretty average sized ears, and was surprised that the X04s just barely fit over my ears.
