I love the Turtle Island String Quartet because of their use of a traditionally classical music ensemble to create a jazz sound. This CD is wonderful because it uses selections from their earlier recordings as well as their latest ones.

I was first introduced to the music of the Turtle Island String Quartet while taking a training class...the Instructor had brought music along and as class attendees slowly and sleepily (training was at 8am) trailed into the classroom, one was immediately greeted by the melodious and striking musick of the Turtle Island String Quartet. Haunting, lilting, foot tapping string music that will have you bobbing your head at times or in deep introspection at other times, an interesting symphonic mix...The Turtle Island String Quartet will keep you intrigued by the sound of those string instruments. I heartily recommend this CD, Turtle Island String Quartet: A Windham Hill Retrospective for your listening pleasure!
