Wow, what a great album,

I was very excited to get my hands on this CD. Her first, Patchwork Heart is one of our favorites. This CD does not disappoint. True to form, Valerie covers a lot of ground. My favorite is Dancing By The River, a country swing tune about the family picnic's on the Mississippi River. Big Ole Train uses some great harmony technique to evoke the sound of a trains horn echoing thru a valley. Don't miss the dark Simpsons Holler, and the haunting Oh Mandolin. As usual Valerie has a list of guests on this album that read like a who's who in Nashville. Its a must have for fans of easy going Americana that will keep you bouncing in your seat or Dancing By The River.

Great Follow-Up,

Sometimes you have a great record and a follow-up that is somehow weaker. Not here, Valerie's second album is as good as number one, great new material, lots of variety, and, of course, her fantastic voice. I can't make a decision which album is better, "Patchwork Heart" or "Turtle Wings", they are both amazing!

"I wonder where you reached to pull up such an array of feeling. Living in the Midwest most of your life, you were influenced by bluegrass, traditional country, and southern rock, by Broadway musicals, Audrey Hepburn, and old black and white movies, by Loretta Lynn, Kitty Wells, Bill Monroe, Hank Sr. and Tom T. Hall along with Waylon and Willie. Yet with all these influences today reflecting in the sound of your music, you still had the wisdom to know that it was the church choirs and Sunday worship services that helped create the soul and inspiration behind your music.
Studying at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, you learned the beauty of classical music, opera and Broadway music. College was a growing experience that helped shape your understanding of the world around you. But I have no doubt it was your hunger to learn and experience as much as you could about music, composers, and their styles that helped lay the foundation upon which you build today. Your ideas ring true that music, theater and art connect us all as human beings and music is one of the most important ingredients in life that allows our souls to breath. It brings a message that evokes emotions of hope, sadness, anger, truth, happiness and confusion. Music, dear Val, is an amazing phenomenon and as long as you remain appreciative of having the opportunity to be a part of it, your life will be blessed. I like the way you look at your music as a "painting" of the environment that influences your expression of sound. I give thanks that you made the move to Nashville. It was from here that you traveled to bluegrass festivals throughout the South, picking up on the sound with which you had fallen in love, the music that comes from the depth of one's soul.
