Revenge can indeed be sweet...

When her brother's car plunges off a cliff with him and his fiancée in it, Amanda Davies gets the news personally from the fiancée's brother. The devastatingly handsome Italian businessman appears in Atlanta and whisks Amanda off to Italy to be with the hospitalized couple. But could his motive be more?

Nicholas de Frenza never approved of his sister's choice in husband to begin with, and now that Carita is in a coma due to her fiancé's reckless driving, it seems the perfect time to resurrect an ancient Italian custom of revenge: the seduction calls for a similar seduction in return, a sister for a sister. But Nico is too civilized for such vengeance -- or is he?

Even as Amanda falls for the Tuscan's charms, she knows his code and his family would never approve of her as more than a simple dalliance. But then the secret about the car wreck comes out -- and that's when everything changes...

A new (Oct 2012) contemporary romance by one of the legends of the genre.
Category-length novel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Left me flat October 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
When a story's premise is farfetched right out of the gate, it's hard for me to get on board. I did stick with The Tuscan's Revenge Wedding and finished it, but it was a disappointing read. At the start of the story I wondered why the Count didn't just send plane tickets with a note explaining the direness of the situation. Why was it so important for him to fly across the Atlantic to personally escort her? Surely if he knew the city where she lived and where she worked, he would have contacted her first by phone. If she didn't come, what possible difference would it have made to him? I didn't buy that he would have left his comatose and possibly dying sister alone to escort a stranger to Italy. It made no sense, nor did the revenge-banging angle. Maybe a hundred years ago, but not today.

The spineless heroine just sort of caved to everything de Frenza demanded. There was no reason she couldn't have an hour or two to settle her affairs. Why the rush? Also, no employer today would allow a complete stranger to "arrange" for their employee to be gone for several days without speaking to the employee first. Amanda's employer should have called the cops and said, " A man just called and said my employee will be out for several days. Here's the number from caller ID. You better check his crawl space."

Another WTF moment... Carita's and Jonathan's car went over a cliff throwing pregnant Carita onto the rocks while Jonathan went over the cliff. He broke ribs and sustained all kind of injuries, yet he somehow dragged himself up the mountain to hear what would possibly be Carita's last request... not that he always love her, not that her baby be saved at any cost, but that she really wanted to meet his sister. It was just silly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Swept away by a rich, romantic story! October 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great read! The best kind....I could not put it down! The plot hooked me in from the opening sequence and kept me engaged until the last page. I have been a Jennifer Blake fan for (dare I say?) decades. This romance is the embodiment of why a Jennifer Blake book never disappoints: it has rich, animated, well developed characters involved in a plot that kept me turning pages eagerly to see what would happen next! The setting is romantic...being in a billionaire's world is exciting, not to overlook the lavish Tuscan landscape, ancient family estates, hot cars and hotter leading characters. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not A Big Fan Of This One October 20, 2012

Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is just personal preference...I have read many of JB's books and liked many of them but not this one. I can't fault the writing or the story itself but what I can complain about is the absolute idiot the hero was. I didn't like him from the minute he opened his mouth. I detest overbearing, chauvenistic, arrogant men and this guy pushed my buttons at every turn. It spoiled the story for me since I just kept being more and more mad at him wanting the heroine to stand up for herself. She was not a weakling by any means just went with the flow. Anyway, being from a predominantly Italian family I can honestly say that not all Italians are like him thankfully I married one that is like night is to day to this PITA hero. I was glad it was free although it was worth buying if you can get past the hero. lol. Enjoy

1.0 out of 5 stars She Forgot the Safety Rules January 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded this for free. It is a DNF, and I would give it negative stars. The heroine's brother is in an auto accident in Italy, and the hero's sister is in the car and is also injured in the same accident. The hero shows up and collects the heroine. It is here that I run into trouble, and was so mad that I quit reading. The heroine never stops to verify the hero's story! She just goes with him. There is no call to make sure that this guy is legit. It has all the hallmarks of a kidnapping. The hero might as well have pulled up in a creepy van instead of a private jet. While it is common in fiction to have jobs just magically put on hold for characters, it does not speak well of the heroine to not check out her facts or to be safe. The hero might be rich and used to getting his own way, but come on, no one should get in any vehicle with a stranger without first checking to make sure this person is legit, nor should any citizen cross any international borders with a stranger. The rights that we enjoy in this country as citizens change with one crosses international borders.

I didn't like the hero, either. That whole revenge thing just rubbed me wrong. A sister for a sister? While there people still in the world like that, it offends my feminist side that the heroine would be attracted to someone who would boss her around. She is described as being the responsible one, and a strong person in her own right. Throwing her power away to a guy that isn't willing to respect her on a basic human level is just stupid. I thought she should know better than that.

I would not recommend this book. There were just too many problems with it in the first few chapters.

1.0 out of 5 stars couldn't finish October 20, 2012

At times the writing seemed awkward and I found myself re-writting sentences in my head. It needs a lot of editing to make it flow smoothly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a bad Harlequin romance. October 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Jennifer Blake is an author I'm familiar with. I've read some of her historical romances and several are worth the read. Unfortunately, this Blake contemporary reads like a kitschy Harlequin, complete with an Italian millionaire (or is it billionaire?), a man who's hugely chauvinistic and overbearing. The heroine is a bit of a ninny, never initiating actions on her own, just reacting to what comes her way. The two do not trust each other or even like each other much and that makes their almost continuous inner musings about wanting to have sex with the other really annoying.

There's a car accident involving the heroine's brother and the hero's sister, which leaves the H's sister in a coma and the h's brother hurt. How did the accident happen? Is the brother at fault? Read to find out, if you care. Personally, I couldn't work up much interest and did not like any of the characters, nor did I find the dialogue particularly smart or interesting. Overall, this is a mediocre romance from an author that I had not previously considered mediocre.
