Belinda, the very self serving central character in this wonderful, humorous tale is someone we all know. She bends the truth to portray herself as blameless and superior to all. Italy is where Belinda ran after discovering her husband and her next door neighbor in flagrante delicto. Her British expatriot friends, are accepting and tolerant of her for the most part, and life as the owner of a Tuscan bed and breakfast, purchased with her divorce windfall, works for her. She actually does very little work and orders, in very poor Italiano, her lovely daughter Mary (Maria) to do most everything. Belinda, of course, takes all the credit, all the while belittling Mary. When an American arrives to open a competing hotel, the real high jinx begin. A delightful read!

Funnier than "Under the Tuscan Sun",

I have lately been drawn to books about Tuscany, heck it's the closest I'll ever get to going there and this book did not let me down. Yes, it has the occasional rustic recipe but the characters are what brings this book to life. I am sure everyone has a "Belinda" in their family and what she does left me laughing out loud at times and at other times feeling very sorry for her. I so thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
