5.0 out of 5 stars A Milestone in Scandinavian Black Metal, February 22, 2008
This review is from: Tusen Ar Har Gatt (Audio CD)
In Sweden and Norway alike, this album is considered a true milestone, the black metal equivalent of Metallica's "black album". One of a kind, and one of those that will always be unmatched - even uncomparible to others.

It has one of the strongest opening tracks/intros I have heard, and it really sets the mood for what to come. It also end in a very certain way, honorable, mysterious, and diabolical are words that can be used to describe the finishing.

The whole album is epic, grim, warmongering, and hateful with a (dark) divine orchestral feeling to it. At times those latter mentioned parts gets almost insanely agitating, as the legions ride forward to the pace of the hellish riffs and whirldwind drumming. Lyrics are done in both english (most of them) and swedish (some), and screams/grawls a continuous tale about, basically, Armageddon - Hells battle against the heavens.

It is one of those albums that you can sit and just listen to alone, from beginning to end. And while doing that, you methaphorically
take a journey from (and through) the inferno, to the very gates of heaven, and after a long battle - back "home". During this, you will feel (I'm not kidding) your blood pumping as the battlecries echoes, and the wardrums pound. Afterward you will be exhausted, but in a good way. Like after sex, or a hard earned victory.

Don't mistake this for some kind of cheesy "fantasy/viking" battlemetal though, this is utter black metal - and you can almost feel the infernal fire through the mighty and hateful music this album provides.

It has becomed almost cult, in later years, and will probably become more so over the years - as this great album keeps earning its righteous place among the top names in B.M. You cannot be into black metal, without at least having heard this work of art. Owning this cd, will be like owning a little piece of hell, or like having a ticket for viewing (hearing) the clash of titans.

By the way, "tusen år har gått" means "a thousand years has passed". I felt I owed it to the scene, to write this review, so that BM fans abroad perhaps less likely will miss this out. Do so and you might as well turn christian...

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome album, April 12, 2002
This review is from: Tusen Ar Har Gatt (Audio CD)
This album is about the four horsemen of the apocalyps and their war against heaven.
The story is awesome. You really get into the battle scenes.
Now to the music.
The production is ok(the singing is a little low but thats ok).
The drumming is also ok. the guitar play is cool.
This is an album that will grow on you
