These diapers are fantastic! I myself prefer cloth diapers, but because we have a high water table if we do much laundry our septic backs up into our house - yuck! I am also severely chemically sensitive and so the scent on "normal" diapers and even the Seventh Generations ones that have gel make me ill. But these are great!! 1.0 out of 5 stars Tushies = guaranteed poop explosion.
I bought a pack of Tushies before my baby was born and have been utterly disappointed with them. Poop shoots up the back of the diaper and out of both legs at least once a day. I have to change the baby's clothes each time he poops in Tushies. Right now I'm trying to use up the package, but may end up throwing the rest out because they don't work for us. Yesterday morning...

They are made of wood pulp/paper and do feel as if there were cotton in them. They have no chemical scent at all and feel nice and soft and smooth to my fingers. They close by means of an adhesive strip on either side that closes onto a larger piece of thin plastic on either side. If you accidentally close the adhesive strip on the paper it will tear when you pull it back off and usually not reseal. This is not a problem if you use them only once. We potty our baby and so sometimes we take it off and put it back on a few times before it gets wet or dirty. Other than accidentally sticking the strips to the paper I haven't had another problem with using them like this. There is elastic at the legs but it is basically encased so that it isn't in contact with the skin and they are snug enough on my baby's legs.

These are a little harder to tell if they are wet than the seventh generation ones (I've never used regular diapers since I can't get near them with their chemical scent) because there isn't a gel. I usually just put a finger on it and then touch that finger to my thumb and then I can tell if I feel dampness or not. If my baby pees a lot though it is easy to tell if it is wet...even from the outside because it will look a little more molded in form, but does not feel damp on the outside and the inside is less damp even then than in a cloth diaper.

The packaging says that you should not let the baby put these in his/her mouth since it is paper and can tear off in their mouth and that it should not be held near a flame - again because it is made out of paper. But all that said, these are not flimsy at all, they are well made and hold up just as well as a regular disposable.

I highly recommend these for anyone who for whom cloth diapers just isn't possible or for those times when impractical (day care) for those people who want to limit their baby's exposures to chemicals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love these diapers, September 22, 2007
This review is from: Tushies Diapers, Small (6-14 Pounds), 40 Count (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
I tried these after reading reviews from here and epinions. We first used Pampers and my baby had such a nasty diaper rash at 2 weeks old (she was bleeding) that I ordered these to try. They are much drier, don;t stick to her bottom, and it helped clear up her rash in one day! I like the concept and I like that they aren't messy and since there is no gel, it doesn't leak out the diaper. The downside is, they are bulky. My baby is 7 lbs out the hospital and the 6-14 diapers are a little on the big side. Also, there may be leakage from the side if you don't fasten the diaper tightly since they are so big. Otherwise folks, try it out for yourself. They may work for some but not others. Or you can do what I did; I contacted TenderCare and got free samples of both the Tushies and Tendercare Plus diapers before I bought them so I knew what to expect before buying an entire package of daipers.

Yesterday morning my baby pooped while I was nursing him. It got all over him, his clothes, me, and our Boppy pillow. Not the best trade off for an environmentally friendly diaper.
The diapers say they are for babies 6-14 pounds. My baby now weighs over 9 pounds and the leg openings still gap. We are having much better luck with gDiapers and Seventh Generation. I love Tushies wipes, but the diapers stink!

5.0 out of 5 stars a fabulous alternative to unhealthy diapers, July 6, 2008

I purchased these diapers instead of Pampers for my baby, after I read all about the chemicals used in the "trim" mainline diapers and the possible effects of all these chemicals (like dioxin and chlorine) on the brain and reproductive system. I was pleasantly surprised when the diapers arrived because they were not nearly as thick as I had assumed. Now on my second package, I will never go back to the other diapers. These last throughout the night and have not leaked. Plus, I know I am not harming my baby. I will never have to wipe those little gel balls off again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for sensitive skin., January 9, 2007
This review is from: Tushies Diapers, Small (6-14 Pounds), 40 Count (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
We love our tushies diapers! They are ALL cotton and great for sensitive skin. If you don't want any gel or plastic next to your precious baby's skin this is the way to go. We have never had any leaks or accidents with these. We couldn't be happier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Diapers, February 1, 2011
This review is from: Tushies Diapers, Small (6-14 Pounds), 40 Count (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
This are the best diapers. We tried many different ones - Earths Best, 7th Generation, Pampers, Huggies, Gdiapers, and none compare to Tushies. Tushies are the only truly breathable kind that won't cause diaper rash. All others, including G-diaper caused my LO's tushie to sweat or get diaper rash.

I saw many negative reviews, and the only thing I agree with in those reviews is that they are a bit more complicated to put on. They require you to fluff the filling by rolling the diaper back and forth and side to side and to make sure that you expended all side tabs when closing. When you get used to putting it on properly, they work great. Sure they won't contain all messes, but some are such that there is nothing that could contain them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Diaper, February 13, 2009
This review is from: Tushies Diapers, Small (6-14 Pounds), 40 Count (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
I love these diapers and they fit my daughter very well. They are old school diapers. Back in the day before they added perfumes, gels and other chemicals. I would highly recomend them to anyone who has a child with sensitive skin. They need to be changed more often then huggies and pampers...because they do not swell up! Also there is no shift in the filling. Overall a fantastic product!

These diapers are okay but they do leak. I like the fact that they aren't made with gel.

The size ones leak everywhere, every time. My son was 10 lbs. at birth and they fit him well but they still leaked everywhere.

So far so good. I mostly use cloth diapers but when in need of diposables, I like that these are petroleum gel free. The small size was bigger than I thought it would be coming from premie diapers, but my daughter is around 6 or 7 lbs and they look a little big but are ok. No leaks so far..
