This review is from: The Tuskegee Airmen (We the People) (Library Binding)
My 4th grader bought this book for a school project. It was highly informative without being overwhelming. All the major points are covered, especially the events leading up to the formation of the Tuskegee Air School. This is important for young readers who may have no context or understanding of discrimination or segregation in pre-1960's America. The book does not spend as much time covering their service during the war, though it is not overlooked. A timeline is included in the book, perfect for book reports. Key figures such as General Davis are properly introduced. This book is a solid starting place for younger (3-6 grade) grades. We believe every school library should include this book.
