5.0 out of 5 stars The best of contemporary erotica by women for women ...., September 4, 2003

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have devoured all of Portia Da Costa's books available at Amazon and this one was always impossible to find until recently when Black Lace released a 2003 print run ....

The Tutor is the story of a young Brit girl, Rosie, start a new life as a live-in librarian with a wealthy couple with the express task of cataloging an extensive private collection, and, provide some special tutoring to the couple's supposedly shy young nephew....

What makes this book so wonderfull and the author so masterfull is that she is able to write an erotic modern tale using nothing more than 'normal' sex and eroticism.... yup, the players in this book do not have to get beaten, whipped, cut up, degraded worse than my dog, peed on etc etc etc

Portia da Costa's gentle writing allows the reader to vicariosly enter the mind's eye of the heroine and enjoy those most wonderfull sexual escapades of total sumbission to pleasures of the flesh. The skill of the author is that she does not have to enter the world of 'kink' to tell her simple but very pleasing story ......

4.0 out of 5 stars A sensual fantasy with likable characters, April 3, 1998
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
Set in contemporary times this is an unlikely fantasy about a reclusive millionaire who hires a young woman to catalog his library of books and his prized possession of erotic literature. Anna? Needing to get a fresh start after recently suffering a bad breakup with her insensitive boyfriend accepts the job even though she senses that something is not on the level after an odd interview with her handsome employer. She soon discovers that her real purpose for being in his house is to tutor his virginal nephew in the arts of love-making. Being an open-minded woman she eagerly accepts her new position and surrenders to her passion and learns several interesting things herself.

I enjoyed this book very much and found the two main characters to be extremely likable people. Admittedly, the plot was very thin but who the heck cares when the sex scenes are this exciting! Some were tender and some were very kinky. There were several f/m scenes along with several m/m, some mild S&M, f/f and 3-way sex so if those things offend you be warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!, September 14, 2003

I read this book to prove to myself that as an enlightened male I can read what I percieve as "feminine" fiction and still be secure in my masculinity. The truth is, I was so engrossed by this book that I felt a sense of disappointment as I read the final chapters. I was hoping for a sequel of this novel because the main character is so likable. Its been 3 or four years since I've read it and it has stayed with me. I have lost my copy since and I hope to find another very soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome!, April 10, 2004
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
Man oh man, this is a good book! I wish I had had a woman like Rosalind to train me during my inexperienced years. This book is delicious! I devoured it in one sitting! These Black Lace books may be written by women for women, but men can enjoy them just as much! Plus, we also get to learn what makes women tick.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderfully erotic read, December 10, 2001
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
Rosie has a bit of a self-esteem problem. She thinks she's fat and not at all attractive. Yet she finally managed to dump her jerk of a boyfriend who wasn't helping matters. She then responds to a want ad for a job to catalog a private library of books. The man who hires her has plans for her though... to teach his very shy nephew the ways of sex. Rosie is suddenly thrown into the midst of a very decadent family where she's fair game to the nephew, the man and his wife... even the sexy little masseuse. Rosie also finds her self-esteem in this world, where she's considered beautiful and voluptuous... and she comes to enjoy this lifestyle as well.

I tore this book when I read it. It reads fast and it's wonderful. It's very easy to identify with the main character... I mean who hasn't had a bout of poor self-esteem? Yet she finds acceptance where she is. The erotic bits deliver and will leave you breathless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insatiable look into the world of uninhibited delights!, January 30, 2004
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
This novel's insatiable descriptions and beautiful language enthralled me from beginning to end. The Tutor is the delicious tale of a young woman's sexual odyssey into the unconventional world of uninhibited sensualists. At first, Rosie Howard is under the impression that she's started a new job as the private librarian for a rich couple. But no sooner does she settle in than she discovers her true task: she is to educate Julian and Celeste's nineteen-year-old cousin on the act of erotica. The bizarre surroundings disturb Rosie at first, but the unsettling and erotic existence is difficult to resist...

I love the subtle and beautiful language Portia Da Costa uses. I absorbed the delectable descriptions. Contemporary erotica is scarcely this insatiable. Also, I loved the subject of voyeurism throughout the novel. This is another winner from Black Lace. I shall look forward to reading more books from this talented author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Where's the sequel???, June 16, 2002

This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
This story is a beautiful telling of learning to accept ones self emotionally, physically, and sexually. Many of us can relate to the ups and downs of being human, and this story is a must to own, especially for the sensual person who isn't afraid to take a few steps off the beaten path. I can not even guess how many times I have read it, but the binding is barely attached. My desire now is to find out whether or not the story has a sequal. If it doesn't, this is one story that definitely deserves one!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Scintillating read for lovers of erotic fantasy, July 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Tutor (Black Lace) (Mass Market Paperback)
The Tutor was wonderful fantasy reading for women. There is a great variety of exciting and interesting sensual situations to more than tease the reader and carry her (or him - or them!) to all those places most of us only go in our imaginations.
