According to Mick Jagger, rock'n'roll is "energy and three chords." Country music, says Hal Ketchum, is "three chords and the truth." You might say that quotation books are three chords (coverage, arrangement, and citations) and an index. These two books offer much for browsers but a little less for those in search of a particular quotation. Neither has speaker, topic, or key-word indexes, but both are arranged in chapters with catchy titles: "Rebels, Politics, and Punks," "Women in Rock," "Politics and Patriotism," and "Friends and Rivals." These are subdivided into smaller, similarly titled sections, e.g., "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys." Quotations are then presented along with the speaker's name and the year in which the remark was made. At the end of each volume, a list of the books, magazines, newspapers, and television programs used in the compilation is provided. These are great fun for music fans, but reference users may sing a different tune.?Carolyn M. Mulac, Chicago P.L.
